Need engine numbers or carburetor number located on the mounting flange, then we can come up with a part number.

How do I set the idle for Hoffco Ll'l Hoe engine

The start setting on most 2-cycle engines are as follows for the jets:
The Hi speed is 1-1/2 turns out from closed, and 1 turn on idle or low. Actually they are the same on 4-cycle too. The idle adjustment screw is a separate screw with a spring on it. This will push the throttle arm to give more or less idle. For more info, go to Partsree.com.

Tecumseh 4.5 hp engine won't start

First thing to check on a Tecumseh; pull the half inch bowl nut (main jet) out of the bottom of the carburetor. Give it a good cleaning with carb cleaner then pay special attention to the teeny tiny hole that is right at the very top of the threads. It's so small you can hardly see it and if it clogs, your mower won't start. Best of luck to you.

Start but will not stay running

blocked main jet in carb most likely.

You will need to remove the carb and extract the main jet and clean it.

If you dont want to remove whole carb sometimes you can just remove the fuel bowl underneath and run a small piece of wire into the main jet from there. It takes a bit more finess but you wont have to worry about putting the carb back on.

You might just want to call a shop and find out how much carb service is with a regular seasonal tune up. Its very slow right now for a lot of shops so they might have the time and need to take a job like this for a reasonable price!

Up and down rpms . think the air vane is out of adjustment.have taken apart carburetor ,new float, needle valve and gaskets. cleaned gas screen.air filter. spring on air vane maynot be in correct postion on...

This is almost certainly due to lean mixture. If your carb is adjustable, back out the high-speed mixture screw 180 degrees.

If there is no adjustment, then either the main jet is still partially blocked, or the carb has internal corrosion (in which case, you will need a new carb - it's not fixable).

8hp Tecumseh engine how to adjust carb. when I put throttle on high it sputters drop the throttle back down its okay?

These symptoms indicate a rich mixture. Assuming the carb is the original (and therefore correct) one, and that it has an adjustable main jet, turn in the main jet adjustment screw on the bottom of the float bowl until the engine runs smooth.

If there is no adjustment on the float bowl, the carb will have to be removed and properly cleaned (ultrasonic cleaner recommended).
