Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

Compressor will not kick on

Purchased a GE 12000 115v air conditioner less than a year ago. Went to turn it on for this season and it will not cool. The compressor will not even attempt to kick on even with lowering the digital thermostat as low as it will go.

(1)Check if elecric power is going to the unit.
(2) Check your Thermostat setting ,set the thermostat to the lowest setting
(3) Check the digital thermostat if it is in the cool position and automatic start
(4) Check the batteries on your hand held remote change if necessary.
(5) If you try these suggestion and it does not work you may check for loose wire in the electrical circuit or a defective control board. Let me know your findings.

Check compressor run amps is correct with a ampere meter. If less, it's under gas leak. Keep your arm on discharge line (smaller pipeline). If no heat means no gas in the system. Find leak and arrest it. Vacuum and recharge gas.Better service the unit and check. Due to condenser & cooling coil, air filter, blower wheel are dust blocked will result to very less or no cooling. Helpful?

I think, your compressor gets over heated due to condenser block-clean it. Less rpm fan speed. -Replace capacitor. 3.Check compressor running capacitor. If weak replace it. Helpful?

Outside fan not running, inside unit running fine. Compressor was running this morning, but no longer. Replaced fan motor, turned power back on, now fan or compressor not running. What else can be checked?

Hi,
There may be a manual reset high limit... look for a red button on a round part hooked to the small copper line and push it in hard...
Also the compressor may have kicked the overload and needs a few hours to cool and it reset, that is interanl insdie the compressor.
Contactor may also have went bad...

I would say that if it starts cooling when it's turned on, then it has freon in it. Sounds more like it's kicking off on high head pressure, meaning the condenser is not getting cooled, head pressure builds up then a safety limit switch shuts it down to save the compressor from burning out.. Is there a condenser fan maybe not operating? or are the condenser coils clogged up with dirt?

Whirlpool window air conditioner 20000 btu's not cooling properly

It is possible the cover needs removed and the condenser coils are in need of a good cleaning. (the one in the back that is outside). This assuming the compressor is running and it has not developed a leak and lost the coolant charge. Eric

Amana Cooling Condensing Unit fan won't kick on

be aware that not repairing this asap that you are causing yourself more problems First I would change out the fan capacitor and see if this could be the problem. Secondly if the capacitor isn,t the problem change out the motor . By continuing to allow the system to cycle like this the compressor will take a dive on you costing more . Good Luck

usually the compressor is broken. its inlet valve and the exhause valve sometimes are not as gastighten as before.

if that is true, your room cannot be cooled down.the compressor has to be replaced.
