Homelite weed eater w/strait shaft. It always ran fine. Can not get it started and it will not fire with a mist of starter fluid. I've checked the spark plug (clean) but no way to crank and hold the plug to see if it sparks. It has always been hard to pull start from the time it was new.

It may be flooded? Sometimes you just have to let it sit for 20min after all those pulls. Oh make sure there isn't an "on off" switch in the off position! Don't laugh it happens!

Oh FYI if the gas is 1 season old TOSS IT. Make sure you aren't losing your prime. and do you know how to clean out a carb if all that checks out?

If its 1 year old and hasn't "been explored" I wouldn't suspect that yet. But what does worry me is that starting fluid didn't give you a "little woof" of starting is problematic. Look just don't spray the fluid from the outside. Unscrew the carb cover. Then spray a nice 2 second spray right into the air filter. That's right..."wet it" a bit. Even if its the sponge type filter. Then replace it as fast as you can, set the choke and no throttle...pull for all yer worth. If you do not get a hint she wants to go...then I'll take it further.

Weedeater and Homelite shafts interchangeable?

Just give it a try. Some different brands will interchange. I have done this with a Toro and it is still running.

Weed eater won't start. changed spark plug,

possibly on/off switch-has it gotten wet? Also check where wiring from on/off switch meets the wiring from the weedeater body.Check those connectors/crimps make sure theyre plugged in /right fit and not wet.Make sure youre ground wire is grounded/attatched/screwed to the machine.Ive had a weedeater get wet twice at the on/off switch and had to bring it in the A.C. overnight to really dry out.It worked.Hope this helps. If none of this does then its maybe the coil(semi-internal-no fun) or the fat wire carrying the spark from the plug to the body(semi-internal-no fun).Good luck!

2009 31cc toro weed eater wont stay running. will fire and run at idle but wont stay running in 1,2,3 settings

get a can of starter fluid and a helper. Start the weed eater and then squirt enough starter fluid into the air intake to keep it running while you move it through the settings. This will rid your tool of the crud that is causing your problem. Joe

Weed eater won't start already Tried new plug

Did you check to see if the plug fires? If it shows a spark, check the air filter. Did you prime the carb? Does the fuel mixture mive smoothly through the plunger? If all that is okay, go through the carb. You might take a SMALL amount of fuel mix and put it into the spark plug hole, try to fire it. If it fires, probably your problem is the carb or fuel delivery to the carb....Good luck...Lee
