There should be some lock system if there are not any screws.
Open that lock and then pull harddrive casing.
Then you can open it.
For stop issue.
Make sure your usb cable is working fine.
Then uninstall usb drivers then it automatic install all usb drivers.
For that right click on my computer then click on property then hardware->device manager.
then you can see all driver list then uninstall all usb drivers 1 by 1 .
Also scan your harddrive with updated antivirus.
Then check.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Hello

the casing is most likely held in place with a few screws, possibly hidden under a label, go over each inch of the drive to find them.

after the screws are out (if any exist) then you need to use a plastic stick or a case opening tool to get it apart, it is held in place with plastic clips.

It is very simple from there. Just unscrew the drive and take it out, then put it into a new case.

let me know if you need further assistance.

You need to use a plastic stick on the edges / openings of the device to get it to snap open, small plastic clips hold it in place. you go around the whole case until it opens up.

WD MyPassPort 320 GB partially dead after an attempt to make it Win8 recovery drive.

Maybe you can try to format it to see if you can get the space back. But one thing important is that you may need to backup your files first. If not, you may lose them. Or you may try some file recovery tool after you format your drive. This may be help, I've try it, workable. http://www.uflysoft.com/data-recovery-mac/ Hope it can help and hope you can get back your 320G back.

Plug hard drive from pc to mac now i cant open files on my pc and the icons have a short cut icon on them?

It appears to be a problem with the WD hard disk that has data that the PC cannot read.
I suggest you format the WD hard disk.
The WD hard drive must be formatted on a PC in FAT32 for you to exchange data between the MAC and the PC.
This will allow the MAC to see a PC hard disk and write files to the WD that the PC can open.

Need to recover files from WD drive that was attached to IMAC when it shut down from Kernal panic. Files were there, some files remain. The files that remain are the ones on the drive before I downloaded...

First thing first - STOP using your WD drive immediately! If you continue using the disk drive, you significantly increase the risk that the files you want to recover will be lost forever due to overwritten. Every new file or action will take up more "free space" and reduce your chances of retrieving your deleted files from WD. So really, you need to act quickly.

The next step - get a good Mac HDD data recovery software to retrieve the data as most as possible.

WD passport 320GB Can I use it as storage, not backup?

You can use it as storage if you would like. You can also delete files once they are put on the passport. When it is connected to the computer open my computer and it will be listed there. You can use it as storage by copying files into this way rather than syncing it. Syncing it could cause you to lose files.

WD Passport Drive Lights Up But Compu Does Not Find the Drive

Does your drive make any unusual sounds like any of these: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php ?
If yes then you got a problem - it's something mechanical with the heads.
If it sounds normal or doesn't spin up at all - try to connect it to another computer and if still no go - remove the internal drive from enclosure and connect directly to PC via SATA port.
