Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

The red bulb and the green bulb fade out completely after a couple of minutes leaving only the blue illuminated. If I turn the TV off and then back on, the process repeats itself. Is this a matter of changing those two bulbs out, or is this a symptom of a different porblem?

Thanks so much! The knobs were a little trickier to access than I anticipated, but there they were and a minor adjustment seems to have corrected the issue.

A simple solution to my problem that I never would have thought of! Very nice and completely without cost. All I needed was a screwdriver.

looks as good as it ever did before, and better than it has for the last couple of years.

Hi,
This problem can be fix by adjusting/ increasing Screen Volts of Red and Green tube/ bulb.
There is Focus Control block that has 6 control knobs, 3 knobs for focus adjustment of each tube and 3 control knobs for Screen Volt adjustment of each tube. Locate R and G screen knobs and slightly increase screen volts to fix the issue.
Focus control box can be accessed by removing front speaker grille.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

The screen turns blue after about 2 minutes of turning on the TV

Sony TVs has an Optical Block issue. If there is an issue with the optical block, then there will be green, blue patches or tint on the TV display. Try resetting the TV to the factory settings and try Power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then TV may require service. You can contact the Customer relations team and check for the available options. Sony had repaired free of cost for such issues. Hence, contact the customer relations.

Tv comes on for 10 seconds then fades to a green tint then turns completely green for a few seconds than turns off

Hi,
Symptom shows tv got problem with green picture tube that need to be replaced.
Rear projection tv has 3 picture tubes, red-green-blue to make color picture.
Since its an old model so spare parts would hardly be available and local tv repair shop will help you to arrange required part, if they can.
Thanks.

KP-51HW40 Sony 51" Fades to blue screen

The service manual on page 8 shows how to adjust the Red/Blue/Green screen voltages. To get to the adjustment board, take the front speaker grill off (two screws at the bottom left and right) and set it aside. No need to disconnect any wires. Then remove the plywood board with 4 screws that exposes the screen/focus adjustments. The top 3 adjustments are for focus, and you need not mess with these. The bottom 3 adjustments are for Red/Blue/Green screen voltage rough adjustments. My screen showed red lines, so I had to turn the bottom right adjustment with a philips head screwdriver just slightly until the red gun retrace lines where no longer visible.

you might wanna look into the "flicker issue" with your set...If you've had it for a while a could be that it's just worsened over time and developed into a voltage leak. I have the same set and it went undetected for a couple of years due to poor quality cable signal..once I went to a clear signal (ie. directv) the issue was very noticeable, but by that time it had progressed. Eventually one of your guns will fail and the set will stop working all together (mine did just under 4yrs from purchase) and unless you have Sears warranty that WILL try to stick it to you. TRUST ME!!! Good luck.

FADING TO BLUE SCREEN

Sounds like you have a problem with the blue gun in your picture tube or its drive circuit. You might remove the back cover and gently tap on the neck of the picture tube using a plastic screwdriver handle while watching the screen in a mirrow. If the picture flashes back on or on and off then the picture tube is the problem. If this is a projection tv you have three separate tubes : red, green & blue. you'd need to tap the blut one.Gently!!!! Stargazer
