This is a problem with the cycling timer on your system. Meaning that the timer that tells the washer when to spin, agitat, spin again and also enter spin mode that it is not sending enough current to the motor to tell the motor exactly what to do. The only way it would be the motor is if you smelled something burning while this was happening.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The main cause of washer not agitating is bad Lid switch. If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Another cause of it is bad Motor coupler. Please also check the belts. Clutch is used for agitating. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the washer from agitating well or at all. The inside of the agitator--where the transmission shaft attaches--can become worn, and strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. Then the transmission shaft rotates back and forth as it should, but the agitator doesn't move properly. If this happens, you may need to replace the agitator and/or the transmission spline. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Washer starts agitation during water fill up and after spin cycle ends washer fills back with water and leaves clothes very wet.

I also have a Whirlpool top load Model # WtW57ESVW auto sensing load washer. I have it it almost a year and it has started to do exactly the same as described above. The repairman said today that it needed a "auto load sensing switch" which he has ordered for me.

Note - you can use your washer until the problem is fixed, but you have to make sure you manually stop the spin cycle prior to it just finishing, for that is the time period that the water starts to fill again.

I also noted that my local Lowes store does NOT sell this model anymore - probably too many customer complaints about this exact same problem. As soon as I showed the problem to the repairman this AM, he immediately diagnosed the issue - said that it was a recurring issue with this particular model.

Whirlpool top load washer no low-speed agitation. The unit fills, starts the wash cycle with normal agitation, but after a few minutes it just sits there soaking until the it's time to drain/spin. Drains...

Either the wire going to motor for non working speed is loose or damaged, or motor is bad. It could also possibly be timer not sending power to motor for that speed.

Washer is not rotating fully during wash cycle

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Some Kenmore washers have a two piece agitator. The lower section will rotate back and forth both ways.

The top section has "agitate Dogs" that allow it to rotate only one way (to keep the clothes moving downward.

If yours has a two piece agitator there shouldn't be a problem.

During normal cycle agitation is a constant stop/start

Yes, the timer mechanism should be replaced asap. the timer has a motor that is responsible for the rotation of the device. This motor is damaged, in return, not allowing the normal cycle to initiate and transfer sequential information to the motor properly.

Replacing the timer will correct this issue.

Will not spin on any rinse cycle

Hi, This washer does not have a belt. While the washer is agitating, if you lift the lid will it stop? Some models will agitate but not spin if the lid is up. It sounds to me like the lid switch might be going bad.
If you will get me a model #, I can look this up for you and give you a better idea.

Washing machine does not drain during rinse cycle?

Turn timer to rinse cycle. let fill up and agitate. when it stops agitating it should pause then start to pump water out. After about 2 minutes it should pause for 3-5 seconds then start again and spin. If it starts the first time and never stops it will just continue to pump but no spin. The 3-5 second pause allows the transmission to shift to spin. If it does not do this the problem is your timer. You may need to do this a few times to verify the problem.

If that is not the problem it is likely that you need a new clutch. You will need a technician to install a new clutch for you

Agitator not working 90 series model # 11026912691

Welcome to Fixya.

Here are some suggestions for any Kenmore washers

KENMORE ELITE TOP LOAD

Washer stops, won't fill, rinse or agitate

• Check the following:
Is the power cord plugged into a grounded 3 prong outlet?
Is the indicator on the Cycle Control knob properly lined up
with a cycle? Turn the Cycle Control knob to the right slightly
and pull to start.
Are the water inlet valve screens clogged?
Are both the hot and cold water faucets turned on?
Is the water inlet hose kinked?

• Does the water level seem too low, or does the washer
appear to not fill completely? The top of the agitator is
much higher than the highest water level. This is normal and
necessary for clothes to move freely.
• Has a fuse blown or is the circuit breaker open? If problem
continues, call an electrician.
• Are you using an extension cord? Do not use an extension
cord.
• Is the washer in a normal pause in the cycle? The washer
pauses for about 2 minutes during certain cycles. Allow the
cycle to continue. Some cycles feature periods of agitation
and soak.
• Is the washer overloaded? Wash smaller loads.
• Is the lid open? The lid must be closed during operation.
Washer will not agitate or spin with the lid open.

NAV5800a top loader washer

The inside of your agitator became worn, and possible strip out the spline that allows the agitator to properly grip the shaft. The loud noise mustly occurs during the spin cycle. If you hear this loud noise your load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it.

Washing machine won't drain

It sounds like you may have some bad contacts in the timer or you may have a bad lid switch which will not allow it to go into a spin during the rinse cycles or the final spin.
