This is clearly a refrigeration problem:
this freezer uses very little freon like 9 oz. or so. if it leaked out even 2 or 3 oz. it is enough to affect performance. that is why it is not freezer like it did brand new. the leaks are hard to find. a refrigerator guy would charge you like $40 (if you can find a guy) to about $120 just to put a couple of oz. back into the freezer. but more is involved.
even if he did put the freon back in if he doesnt find the leak it will leak out and eventually go back to like it is now.. you can pay that not knowing how long it will last or just buy a new one (Samsclub for $150 or so) and get a extended warranty for $14.99 (i did)

rule of thumb: if you paid alot ($800 to $2000) for a appliance then might as well fix it (get the extended warranty if it is reasonable) dont pay $300 for a warranty you probably will never use.

hope this helps

Freezer temperature does not get below 10 degrees

this is something you can do now. Check this 1st:
make sure that the air vents are not blocked and that you didnt overload the freezer with food

there can be other things that will not bring the temp. below 10 (that temp. is not too bad as long as it doesnt spoil the food)
here are the possiblities:
t'stat is set too low
t'stat is not responding to zero degrees (all that means is it is shuting off the compressor too soon to reach zero)
dirty condenser
r-134a freon is a tad low (only takes like 9 oz. if lose 1 or 2 that is enough to affect performance)
the freon is the last thing to check cuase you have to call someone to do that for you...

Well hope this was helpful... check the temp often watch to see if it gets above 20 degrees cause that will spoil you food..

I replaced compressor for a hussman refrig and its hums loud

God day,
Some thoughts.
1. Are the evap fan motors running, and at full speed. That would give you abnormally low suction pressure.
2. Cap tube sized too small. or partial restriction in the dryer cap tube/dryer when brazing in the lines.
3. Low ambient. What's the temp the machine is running in.
4. Over sized compressor.
5. Moisture. God, 134A is touchy on that one.
6. Was original cap tube soldered to the suction line to create a heat exchanger. Needed on many apps. Definately would cause flash back on start up.
7. Superheat a little low, should be 12 to 15 degrees.

12 year old freezer won't get above +20. Could it be the temp control dial?

I think you meen below 20 . Its mostlikely low on freon. if only half or less of the evap coil has frost , you low on freon. Then you have a leak in the system.

I have a hotpoint deep freezer and it needs freeon. How and where do i put it.

First you need to know what kind of refrigerant it needs , and the amount of it in weight (oz,lb, gm ) If needs freon means there's a leak because all the refrigerations system are seal , so the leak has to be fixed and then recharged the unit using your manometers to check low and high pressures while you charging the system through the low pressure service valve (remember after fixed the leak to vacum the system and replace the dryer).

Food thawing in freezer

You may have a small leak in the evaporator. You could try to get a replacement freon with stop leak from the automotive store and give it a shot. If it is a R12 unit then it is too old to repair. But it is worth the gamble to shoot it with freeze 12 or an equivilent before you condemn it.
