Toshiba laptop wont boot up

Ok i have had this m35x-s163 since new in 05 it has been very good. The other night it was working fine the next morning it would not boot. When i turn it on i can hear the heat fan run for about a second then stop and no noise at all.The blue power light just stays on until i remove the battery. All the power indicators in front are still working. The screen stays black has no picture on the lcd or the external output.I have removed the harddrive and checked it out on my pc and all is still in tact. This leads me to believe the motherboard or the cpu.I hate to get rid of this puter since i just put a new screen in it a few months ago and also got a brand new battery recently too.

It sounds more like your power supply isn't charging the battery.
I would first check to see if the power supply is working properly (you can do this with a regular volt/amp meter, or by taking to your local electronic repair shop). If the power supply turns out to be ok, then next have your battery tested, even new batteries sometimes go dud.
These are both inexpensive (if not free) things to check before you just throw it away or get into a motherboard/processor.
Let me know if this works or not.

I am trying to fix a M35 and it has the same problem, only if you take the power cord and adjust it just right. The laptop will stay running. It may have a loose connection on the motherboard.

Toshiba m35x-s163 will not boot

Hi there, you will need to go into the BIOS page (usually the Del key or an Function (F) key at the Toshiba logo). You will need to change the boot order from network/lan to the Hard Drive. Its pretty straight forward mate.

Cheers

No backlighting

You need to repalce the backlight/Screen altogether, or have someone do it for you. If the backlight has cracked then no amount of reconnecting will get it to work. Try one of the many Laptop repairers online to get a quote
