I couldn't believe it but this actually works. I bought a DS6322 set with 4 handsets at Costco a year ago, then snagged the 3-handset version off Woot a few months ago thinking it would be a cheap way to add 3 more handsets. Couldn't figure out how to join the new handsets with the old base no matter what I tried.

To confirm the procedure - make sure the base to which the handset is paired is not powered on (pull the plug). The handset should say "No power or out of range" or something similar. Press *331734#" then MENU/SELECT. If it worked, the screen will go blank and you'll hear three beeps that go up (if you're musically inclined, the actual pitches are G3, F4, D5). When the screen comes back on, it will say the thing about pressing "HANDSET" on the base and then "#" on the handset. Follow the instructions and you're all set!

Thanks for much for this! Vtech support said I had to go buy NEW PHONES after I bought a replacement base for one lost during a move. Happy to say I now have 3 phones, the 2 old ones and the new one all sync'd to the new base using this solution. My phones were a different model, but it still worked! I have model number CS6229.

Thank you sooooo much! I tried everything, no success... until I read your solution. It worked perfectly for the VTech DS6221! Thank you again!

Thanks a bunch!!! I had a 4 handset set, 2 broke, then I bought 3 handsets at an auction that didn't come with a base. Cost a dollar to get back where I was and have an extra handset too!

Thanks! I purchased 3 handsets at an auction in a box that originally came with 5. I was fighting trying to register them for 3 days. The users manual was no help. at the price new handsets cost I saved a ton of money!

Works great. Needed to do it a third time, but the first time, I didn't press "MENU/SELECT" after the numbers, and the second time, I may have made a typo. Star, 3, 3, 1, 7, 3, 4, Pound, MENU/SELECT worked! Three confirmation tones followed, then the message to press "Find Handset on base..." appeared. THANK YOU!!!

  • caitsith2 Nov 28, 2013

Awesome. Exactly the solution I was looking for. Had an odd-ball handset where the base for it was missing, and I wanted to tie it to my existing CS6219-3 base as a 4th hand set.

This works great for the handsets that were registered to a broken base station, but what about the AT&T TL7610 headsets that were registered to this base station? There's no way to enter a code without a keypad...

Thank you so much! Worked perfectly on my DS6322-4 (purchased 2 sets at Costco like you and wanted to combine them - not using the 2nd base, just the handsets). Shame on V-Tech for not printing this in the manual and driving others to buy more expensive single add-ons.

  • efilnikuf65
    efilnikuf65 Nov 08, 2012

kjBender since you purchased 2 sets, all you needed to do was hook up the base on the second set, charge the batteries, and then press find handset on the base for 10 seconds. Within a few seconds all handsets registered to that base would say "not registered" put the second base up in case you need the spare, and register it's handsets to the new base. The method found here is only needed when the original base is not available for whatever reason.

    Works great exactly the fix

I have a CS6629 and it didn't work. My handset says out of range/no power at base. These were registered to a base that went bad and I want to reregister to mine. When I press in the code above, it just shows up as 1--331-734 and a character that looks like an upside down capital A

Unplug power from most Vtech Base Stations if you are doing the manual de-register using *331734# then Menu Key. It will work on most Vtech Handsets.

Deregister AT&T SL82118 handset

The following is for the model ATT 5830.

Enter the following sequence on the base station including the * symbols.

This will deregister all handsets associated with that base station. Handsets can then be added back into the system by entering the base station ID into the handsets one by one. The base station ID is on the bottom of the base station itself.

I need to deregister a DS6101 without the base. I needed to replace the base and once we installed the new base, the extra handset that we had registered with our old base shows the following message...

Called the manufactuer.... To do this enter on the handset you want to deregister:

*331734# and press (Menu Key# 1 - top uppermost left button that is unmarked).

This will put the handset back into the register mode.

Hope this helps,

I bought some handsets but they were registered to another base. How do I deregister without the base

First, select Deregister HS from the main menu. Secondly, press the red phone button and the # key simultaneously for about 5 seconds to finish deregistration. You will then see a message telling you to place the phone in the cradle of the base unit to register it to your unit. An "operation complete" message will confirm that the handset is now registered and ready to use. Good luck.

My uniden phone says - out of range

Uniden wxi477 out of range fix

This problem arises when the handset does not communicate with the base.
These are the steps:
1: Deregistering the handset
2: Registering the handset to base

Deregestering clears the stored (incorrect) base information on the handset.
Reregestering allows the base to assign a new ID for the handset.

Deregistering- press and hold the OFF (red button) and the # button on the handset for 5 seconds. select base unavailable and press OK. Are you sure appears. select yes and press OK. you will hear a confirmation tone. The handset will delete its own base information without trying to contact the base. It will now display MODELS VARY PLACE HANDSET ON THE BASE FOR REGISTRATION.

Registering the handset with the base- Make sure the tel. line and power is plugged into the base.
Press an hold the register button under the base (located between the tel. line and yellow power socket under the base) for 5 seconds until the red light flashes. At the same time press and hold the # button on the handset for 5 secs. You will hear a tone and It will now display REGISTRATION COMPLETE.

If it says registration failed: Retry the registration steps. Make sure the handset have enough battery power. If not charge for 15-20 hrs.
Check your connections on the base and make it is getting power.

The Steps above was my fix for the uniden wxi477 out of range problem.

Good luck.

I have a Pansonic kx-tga270s that is registered to a base I do not have. Is there a way to deregister it.

you dont need to deregister it if you have not registered all 8 hand sets with your base unit. Just register the new one and the base will assign a new # for this new. I you had registered 8 hand sets with your base already, you need to remove(deregister0 one handset from your base(it can take only upt 8).
If it still not registering please deregister as follows:
on the base unit, press program, them mute, then enter 335#, then enter the handset number you wish to deregister.
after deregistering try to register your new hand set.

The "END" and "#" key combination can be used for several purposes:

1) If wanting to use an ALREADY REGISTERED HANDSET on an alternate base, and if if the INITIAL BASE isn't available to deregister the handset:

1a) Press "END" + "#" until it for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
1b) Choose the "Base Unavailable" option
1c) That'll deregister the CURRENT HANDSET so that it can be re-registered on ANY base.

2) If a BASE has a handset registered to it which you no longer want registered but the registered handset is missing or broken:

2a) Grab another WORKING handset which is properly REGISTERED to the BASE in question
2b) Press and hold the "END" + "#" key for 5+ seconds (wait for it to beep)
2c) Choose the "Deregister HS" menu option
2d) Pick the REGISTERED HANDSET # to de-register. (Every other registered handset EXCEPT THE ONE YOU'RE ON will appear in the list!)
