Hi.

You cannot know what board is involved without testing the TV. Testing requires skills and training.

The faulty board is likely the digital controller board(Vizio 3642-0492-0150), which is the main board inside the TV.

Before replacing the main board, the Power Supply and the must be tested.

On this 42'' there is also a Daughter Bd Assy, and T-Con Board that must also be tested.

Testing is done at component level, mainly reading volts in strategic points and checking components for continuity.

Here a general procedure explaining how to test the power board. Disregard the part on inverter as this is unlikely responsible for the symptoms you have described:How to test an LCD TV or monitor PSU

Regarding inputs, this can also be responsible, and may be tested by simply using the TV on different connections. Here the boards :HDMI Input, and AV INPUT .

Before doing anything else call Vizio at the number listed on the owners manual, to verify warranty status and to check the factory quote on repair.

Regards.

Ginko.

Today my 55" vizio screen popped and then turned red. I unpluged and restarted everything and now the audio is on, the chanels change, but the screen is completely read. some images are readable.

If this is a VO47LFHDTV20A TV set, the problem is most likely your LVDS(cable from the main board to the t-con)cable is faulty. When you turn the set on, do you have a red screen instead of the standard blue screen? Do you also have red tints on all images on all inputs? If this is the case, your LVDS cable is bad. If you are comfortable opening up your set, track down where the LVDS cable goes into the t-con board. Turn on the set, and wiggle the cable, if the red tinting goes away, you will need a LVDS cable, about $24 part.

Vizio VO370M red color has gone away

Change the input to some other device and see. Then if the problem persists, this might need attention by a qualified service technician.

My av input shows in black and white. how can i change it

is it the red white and yellow or the green blue red outputs? If it's the red, white and yellow then first try another set of RCA jacks, because bad jacks can cause this problem. Then if that doesn't work then you will have to repair or replace your video board or main logic. Try shopjimmy.com or discount-merchant.com

There is a blue line on right side of screen extending upward about third of the way

A picture is worth a million words in this case.

Since the line is not all the way up chances are you might be able to repair it.

Might be the LCD controller, which for Vizio L37 is T370XW01 or could be the main board.

if the line was all the way it would likely have been the LCD itself, which is not repairable; chances are still that's what it is, of course, but I can't remember seeing an LCD problem as you describe it.

Both the LCD controller (also called TCon) and the main board can be found on eBay and other dedicated stores. In fact I happen to have the TCon from a recently dismantled L37...the main board went out to repair another Vizio L37 just two days ago.

Hope this information helps.

Your rating is appreciated!

I had the same problem with my 32" Vizio lcd tv, I took it to a repair shop and they said it might be the motherboard but they didn't seem too sure about. I am considering ordering the motherboard and trying to fix it myself hope this helps.

It sounds like you have a defective LCD panel. This is more common with the plasma TVs. Are you sure it's an LCD?
