You should be able to resolve this by restting your SMC and THEN resetting your PRAM. First:

...and then:

It may very well be a hardware issue. To double-check, try running the Apple Hardware Test: (assuming you bought your computer sometime after 2006 and it is Intel-based):

If the computer is already on, insert the appropriate disc into the optical disc drive, then restart. If the computer is not on, turn it on and insert the disc as soon as possible after startup.
Usually the appropriate disc is the 'Applications' disc - if this does not work, then use the 'OS X Install' disc.
Press and hold the "D" key before the gray startup screen appears.
It takes a minute or so for Apple Hardware Test to start up and inspect your hardware configuration. While this is taking place, an icon appears on the screen:

When the process is complete, select your language and click the right arrow. If you aren't using a mouse, you can use the up and down arrows to select a language and then press the Return key.
The Apple Hardware Test console appears. You can choose which sort of test or tests to perform:
To perform all of the basic tests, click the Test button or press the "T" key or the Return key.
To perform a more thorough diagnostic test, select the "Perform extended testing" checkbox under the Test button before you click the Test button.

You can't. At least without taking it back to Apple and having it upgraded. The VRAM is "Video RAM" this is hardware and Apple are notorious about making things difficult to upgrade for consumers.

I want to upgrade the PCI Graphics card for my (Phoenix Bios D888)U8668-DD motherboard. What are the latest graphics cards I can get for it?

Hi there! You can only use PCI graphics on your motherboard, so the best card you can get is a GeForce 8400 by NVIDIA. Jaton makes an excellent card with 1GB of VRAM - it's $194. Here is a link to the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139047 It is one of the few PCI cards you can get with that much VRAM. You could also look at a GeForce 6200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814139037 Or a Radeon HD 4350 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129156 Best of luck! I want to download a 128MB Vram for my system. My problem is that I don't have any webite to get it for free from. Can u get it for me?

VRAM is special-purpose memory used by video adapters. Unlike conventional
RAM, VRAM can be accessed by two different devices simultaneously. This
enables the RAMDAC to access the VRAM for screen updates at the same time
that the video processor provides new data. VRAM yields better graphics
performance but is more expensive than normal RAM.. "from webopedia".
so yes VRAM will get you better video performance. Basically it has its own
RAM, not sharing from your system RAM.

This sounds like you need an updated driver for your graphics chip set.
Try going to the support page for the type of laptop you are using and you should be able to find all of the updated drivers that work for win7.

Hi,

Check if your gfx card isn't overheating. Be careful not to burn it out if this is the case. If it is not overheating try to update the graphic drivers.

Kernal panic

Hello,

To reset nvram,
Press "cmd alt O F" at startup
Then enter:
reset_nvram (press enter)
reset_all (press enter)

A kernel panic can come from a lot of things (peripherals, corrupted file, or damaged hard drive or memory). The best is to check in the log file what caused the kernel panic, or to proceed step by step, checking one thing after the other, until the problem is resolved.

Want to buy more RAM..

Your dell dimension takes DDR ram. These are the specs:

Supported pin types: 184 pin DIMM (regular desktop DDR ram)
Supported memory types: DDR PC2700 or DDR PC3200
Supported speeds: 333mhz or 400mhz
Supported stick sizes: 128mb, 256mb, 512mb or 1gb.
MAXIMUM MEMORY ALLOWED: 2gb (2 x 1gb sticks)

If you buy two of these you will max out for ram and give you the best performance::
