Why won't brushes move on Commercial Carpet Pro Vacuum Cleaner

Luvumuch48tj:

Unplug the vacuum and lay it upside down on some newspaper. Remove the sole plate (bottom plate) with a screwdriver. Pull straight up on the brushes (called a beater bar) and remove the beater bar and belt. Remove the end caps and bearings from the ends of the beater bar (it may take a 2-grunt pull, or CAREFULLY pry the end caps and bearings from the beater bar with a screwdriver) Don't stab your hand with the screwdriver... That HURTS! Once you have the bearings and end caps off, remove the hair, carpet fibers and other gunk from the ends of the beater bar, end caps and bearings. Dribble a little rubbing alcohol on the bearings in the end caps and spin the bearings to clean them... keep dribbling alcohol in the bearings until the alcohol draining from the bearings is clear. Dry the bearings until there is no alcohol in them. Now would be a good time to check the opening in the vacuum head and the hose going into the body of the vacuum for clogs. Reinstall the bearings and end caps on the beater bar and reinstall the beater bar with a new belt in the machine. Reinstall the sole plate. Your machine should run like new.

I was running my vac when it caught the fringe on a throw. I turned it off and carefully pulled it out but now I don't have any suction and it's not cleaning the carpet.

Don't know the model too well but the beater bar is what goes when that happens(the brush that goes around right there on the intake of the sweeper) it has a belt that makes it turn and you probably broke the belt or burnt it up or it came off so it is the belt that is the problem. That will give you those symptoms because the beater bar (rotating brush) is what lifts the dirt up so it can be sucked in.

My vacuum seems to be just pushing around things instead of sucking them up. I changed the bag and cleaned the bottom, but nothing helped.

Did you check to see if the drive belt for the beater brush was broken or frozen up? The beater brush hits the carpeting and causes the dirt, etc, to jump into the air so the suction of the unit can pull it into the vacuum. The beater brush will be fairly easy to remove. Once it is out of the machine, clean it as best you can, add some WD40 on the plastic end pieces and when you reassemble, put a new drive belt on. This should solve the problem. Paul

All of a sudden the hose isn't sucking. There is nothing in there that I can see. Is there a way to take apart the connection between the hose and machine?

This URL would be a good place to start looking:

Pay special attention to the belt that drives the beater brush and the beater brush itself. You need to make sure the belt has not broken and that the beater brush has not frozen up due to dirt and debris. If you need to change the belt it would also be a good idea to remove the beater brush and clean it as well.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions, my assistance is at no charge.

Where is the belt located?

The "belt" is normally the drive device that turns the beater brush found on the bottom front of the vacuum. Its purpose is to beat the rug and cause dirt and debris to rise up from the carpeting and be sucked into the vacuum. If the belt is missing, you may not see it. If the belt is in place, it will loop around the beater brush and back to a drive motor. Since belts can break on a regular basis any covers over it should be easy to remove via small slide levers or at most by removing a few screws from the bottom of the vacuum. The new belt must be attached properly in order for the brush to move in the correct direction. If you are going to replace the belt it is probably a good time to clean the beater brush and lubricate the end pieces of the brush with some WD40 as well.

Dyson dc17 animal stopped sucking. brush still

Make sure the flexible hose that connects the beater brush housing up to the connection up by the dust bin is still connected. It could also have a hole in it so check for that as well.

We have a dyson dc14 and the beater bar stopped turning, we cleaned the bar off and checked the belt and it's not broken, I know I called Dyson a year or two ago and they told me how to reset the beater...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when the machine is locked upright. When you release the head and pull the handle back this dial should mopve forward to the on position. Once here, the brush bar should turn.

If this doesnt resolve the problem, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Beater bar doesn't turn

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards
Darran
