Question about Lutron Electronic Low-Voltage Multi-Location Dimmer by Electronics, Inc

Dimmer Switch not working after power outage

During a recent wind storm we experienced a short (a few hours) power outage - once the power came back on all three of our Lutron Electronic Low-Voltage dimmer switches are not working. These are on two different circuits - we have reset all of the breakers but no response. Any ideas about how to check on reseting these?

It's quite probable these units have gone faulty, due to the "Outage" see my previous post below.. You will need to replace these units, to restore functions. Please, have a read below, it may save you many $$ We have all had them, Power Outages, inconvenient, and also very deadly, well to Electronic equipment anyway. You see when any Circuit, is Made or Broken, at the instant of contact, when reconnecting, the current draw is considerable, also, after the connection has been made, and the "Load" being connected, and the Current draw is large, all sorts of transients, Spikes, Surges, Oscillations, is reflected, up and down the entire network. Now along with this, MOST people do NOT completely remove, the unit from the mains, by withdrawing the plug. nor, probably, even turn it off. This is wrong, ALL/ANY electronic equipment, that is connected to that Grid, will also encounter a phenomenon know as "Inrush Current" Now, this Inrush Current, Can and Does cause a great deal of damage to electronic equipment, the, instant reconnection, without going through an ON/OFF switch, and Power Conditioning Circuitry, well, the initial Current draw for that instant, is incredibly, high, and with nothing between, the current surges in, stressing everything, in the Power Supply, and more. Now along with that, you also have Transients, Spikes, Surges, Ringing, Oscillations, caused by the reconnecting of the Circuits. Joining of Cables, or Contacts. When the Power Goes OFF, you should NEVER leave anything plugged in after a Power outage, you need to withdraw each and every plug, from ALL Electronic equipment, note here, purely resistive, and relay type equipment is usually immune, it must be removed, and it shouldn't be reconnected, until about 5 minutes, AFTER the Power has been reconnected. This is to Avoid, all of the bad things that are caused by the reconnection back onto the Grid. If you do this, you can be assured of you Electronic items, lasting at least as long as they should, and not suffer premature deaths.

Wii won't turn on after a power outage.

Hey, recently had a power outage and now your Wii won't turn on?

Well unless your Wii is completely fried from the storm then this should work (It has for me every time I have had an outage).

After you find out it's not getting power then just unplug the power cable from the wall and from the Wii. Normally I unplug it for about 12-24 hours then you go plug it back into the wall, plug it back into the Wii, look at the power button and if it is red/orange then it has been fixed and you should never have a problem with it again unless you keep it plugged in during a thunderstorm/power outage!

This has happened to me about 8 times and this method worked every single time!

Had a lightning storm, now brand new aircon wont restart, remote is ok

The electrical storm may have caused a power surge and burned out the circuit board. Especially, if the power went out briefly and then came right back on. Most manufacturers recommend turning the unit OFF during a power outage/electrical storm.

Hope this helps you.

Hi fixya. I solved the problem myself, it was pretty easy. I just unplugged the power; let it sit for a minute; plugged the power back in; then I opened the dryer door and while manually holding down the door switch, I manually spun the dryer drum and simultaneously my son hit the start switch - you need three hands to perform this procedure - and it started running! Then I let it run for at least an hour, and ever since that it has started perfectly well.

Coleman Powermate only puts out 110V

If you haven't seen it yet, here is a page that may help with a manual or parts list.

This problem sounds kind of bad, generators don't do well when the engine stops under load.
Start by checking the circuit breakers in the distribution box (outlet panel) - you need ot do this with an ohm meter. After that check the power windings of the stator with the ohm meter, be sure to check between the 2 windings (should be open), and from each one to ground with the winding isolated.
Whining, a burning varnish smell, and breakers that trip all the time are indicators of long term overload problems. This could happen if you had most of the load on one winding for a significant amount of time, or if the one winding mostly powered motor-like loads with high startup currents.

You may want to look at this answer I posted some time ago.

Carl
