All digi windows such as speed come on (00) but do nothing else ? Example I change speed of treadmill but readout is still (00) .

You've got faulty controls. Check them

I think the problem on that is only the pedal sensor.
The sensor will count your every steps. And it will also read the distance of your workout.
If the sensor is damage you can't get any readings of your steps. If that the case you need to replace new sensor.

adjust the Reed switch see the diagram attached, clean it, and tigh the plug very well.
2) tight the ribbon inside for keypad, and clean it.
3)tight the connector from display board vs lower board.
4) Run finally the software calibration for diagnostic, troubleshooting and fix it.

Recalibrate the machine if speed is not registering, belts stop turning or the display readout shows an "err, LS, OS" on the face. Calibrate the Bowflex TreadClimber 5300 by plugging it in. Stand on the foot platforms, or floor mat. Do not stand on the walking belt. Insert the safety key. Press the "start" key when "CAL/PRSS/STRT" shows on the readout. If readout fails to show the "CAL/PRSS/STRT" symbol, turn off machine and turn it back on. Press "ENTER" and then "DOWN SPEED" at the same time until "CAL/PRSS/STRT" shows up on the display. Belts will start and stop during the calibration; do not be alarmed. Do not make any adjustments or interrupt the display of numbers as the unit goes through the calibrations. When the machine is finished calibrating, the readout will display "CAL...PASS" and you can press the "POWER" key to get out of the calibration section

I had a similar problem with my treadmill. The problem was not the motor just the Circuit board.

I had the same problem with my Nordic Track. I had somehow changed the display to metric readings.

Solution: Hold the stop button down while inserting the key, push the speed up or down button to change it back to english, remove key and you are good to go. Re insert the key and it should work fine. Hope this helps.

What do you think--what changes when something happens???

Has anyone had the treadmill apart? Most of the readouts are really very simple. Simply a sensor wire that runs down to the pulley with a sensor at the end. It counts the revolutions of the drive pulley and gives calculated readouts for speed, est calories, distance etc. all the same function really
Check the wire for breaks, check the sensor for positioning and dirt, check the magnet on the drive pulley that tells the sensor pulley position
