Question about Weber Q Grill

1 Answer

Not enough heat

It seems the grill doesn't heat up enough. I have hooked to 20# bottle. I have cleaned the holes with a welding tip cleaner, but the flames aren't any better. I even replaced the grill burner on one of them. Thanks, Ron

My weber grill doesn't seem to be getting enough gas thruogh the jet to heat to proper temp.

The most likely problem is that food drippings have clogged some of the pin-hole gas outlets in the burner tubes. If those are clean and open, then either your propane tank is not releasing the gas or the controls on the grill are not releasing the gas. If you look at the flame level, probably best done with the flavorizer bars removed, and they are all the same with the controls on high, then it it probably the tank valve. If the flame heights are different, the lower one(s) are the ones where the control valve(s) are not working and need to be replaced. Good luck!

Just bought a new Jenn-Air grill and cant get the temp past 250. Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

First, check that all the gas lines and flame bars are clear of any 'things' or bugs. I had a similar problem with a Webber grill and found out my problem was with the gas bottle. The new Overflow Protection Valve required on LP bottles can closed off or severly slow the flow of gas when the bottle is full and the valve is opened quickly. It will let enough gas flow to light the grill but won't let the fire get high enough to heat the grill up. Turn all the valves off on the grill and gas bottle. Open the gas bottle valve slowly then turn on the grill burner and try lighting it. If the flame is still very low try again or you have to let it burn at the low level until the OPV float drops down and the valve doesn't impede the gas flow. The best way to avoid this in the future is to not fill the gas bottle to the top when you have it refilled. Just ask the LP attendent to not fill it all the way.

Gas Grill Burners with yellow flames coming from beneath them

the flames should be blue and the burners clean. check gas pressure and the air mixture dampers. touch air will give you the same effect. if the burners are clean, it is the mixture. as far as the slots in the bottom. i have not seen that. but i work on commercial ranges.

Try putting on a new regulator

Can not adjust flame.

It sounds like the grill just needs a good cleaning, plus when you do clean it check that the burner tubes and orfaces are free of any debris.
The orface is a tiny hole inside a small brass threaded insert where the gas blows through into the burner tubes, it is very critical that this is clear as well as the burner tubes.

My weber q grill has a problem. When I light it the flame does not burn all around and the food does not get equal heat. How can I fix this.

Assuming the burner's clean, try this solution that worked for me:
Often with a big bottle, people turn the gas off and on at the big bottle and leave the grill valve open. That makes the regulator see a low pressure on its output, which is a potential leak indication. It goes into "bypass". Try turning off the tank, turning off the grill valve, and turning on the tank, then waiting 20-ish seconds before turning the grill valve on.
If the burner's dirty, I take mine out of the grill and run it through my oven's self-cleaning cycle.

Low gas flow - low heat

The only way you can fix the low flame, low heat problem, is to remove the grill, take a medium sized paper-clip (staightened out) and clean out each individual hole on the steel burner, flame tube. (I'm sure there's a technical name for it).

Since they (the holes on the flame tube) face up unprotected, directly under the grill cooking surface they tend to get blocked quickly with continous use and certain foods, like pork ribs. Bad design unless all you plan on grilling is hot dogs.

There are about 500 individual holes, so plan on being there a while. Or in other words, do it close to the cooler.

I've been tempted to toss the thing into the woods a bunch of times over the past 2 years I've owned the dumb thing.

Good luck!

Propane Problems

The salesman at ACE Hardware told me I needed a grill tip cleaner. Seems the outflow valve from the tank can get crusted and there is a device called a gril tip cleaner that can help restore the gas flow to a higher level.
