I checked the actual printer settings on the printer itself and they are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, none parity and 1 stop bit xon/xoff... then i checked the Prolific usb to serial port and its exactly the same as the printer... the computer recognises the printer as an unknown comm 4 port??? but its only done that since I installed the prolific driver to get the usb - serial converter working.. I'm using windows 7 by the way. when I print to Zebra driver it just says printer offline?? and I have made the port setting in that driver the comm4 and tried the usb 001 aswell... nothing seems to work?

Make sure the serial port parameters match between the printer and the usb-serial driver. The Zebra printer is usually set to 9600 baud, 7 data bits, Even parity and 1 stop bit. The serial driver is probably different. The mismatch will prevent communications.

Hope that helps !

mmm....Ok...sorry that was not the answer. The only other thing I can think of - usually when connecting a Zebra serial port to a PC serial port, you had to use what's called a "null-modem" cable. This cable crossed over pins 2 & 3 between the Zebra and the PC. One pin is data receive and the other is data send. If a straight serial cable is used, then data receive on the Zebra is connected to data receive on the PC. Of course data receive should be connected to data send. So the null modem cable made the crossover.

I'm not familiar with the Prolific cable but maybe it's providing a "straight-through" connection instead of "null modem". I hope that rambling answer makes some sense and provides some additional info.

Lp 2844 will not work with my new laptop

You need a piece of software to create a Virtual com port, make sure you have the comms set correctly 9600, n, 8, 1 and print to that port, you will find it clearly marked in Device Manager. You can get a parallel to USB cable then you can use your driver set to LPT1

Will the Zebra LP 2844 work in Quickbooks with Windows 7? I cannot get it to work. My computer is also 64 bit.

Quickbooks uses a DOS backend, you will need to set it up as a serial connection. If using a USB to Serail converter, you will need to find software to create a virtual Com Port to make it work.

How to configure the Zebra S500 using a USB to Parallel adapter?

The Zebra Stripe S500 has a RS-232 SERIAL interface using a DB-25 connector . You'll need a USB to SERIAL converter, not parallel. Be sure that the baud rate and data/stop bits are set the same on the printer and interface converter. Generally speaking, use the fastest setting possible (19200 baud) unless you encounter problems.
