Hi if you go to this site first
then look on the site and it will then scan your computer for you telling you exactly what memory you need like p100 or p133 as getting the wrong one will cause your computer to stop working ok.
also the site will tell you the maximum memory you can have dont go above this as you will get alot of problems with your computer.
Once you have the memory ready to install follow these instructions ok
1. with computer off and switched off at mains remove the outer case
2 once case is removed you will see all the slots that your monitor and keyboard plug into their will be a strip of slots near these these are all for modems monitors etc.
But if you look at the memory you need to install then youll know what they look like the slots for the mem will be away from the other slots for monitor and keyboard etc once you have located the slots you will see either one or two memory cards in these slots.
3. one slot will be p100 and one p133 but the site i told you about will show you this.
4 remove the memory chip thats in their their will be a clip at each end push these back and it will lift up the memory strip a little bit then pull it out ok. On the one you take out it should have a sticker on it somewhere saying the size and whether its p100 or p133 remember witch slot it comes out of ok
5. if theirs only 1 in your comp all ready and your only putting one in then you wont need to take the one out thats in if this is the case then all you need to do is insert the new memory it will only go in one way make sure you push it down hard enough so the clips can close at either end.
6 if you do need to take the one or two out thats all ready in your comp then write down witch one was in the slot ie 256mb p100
and whatever the other one is thats in their if their is 2
remove these.
7. Check the memory your putting in make sure you have the right ones ok but that site will tell you what you can use ok.
push the new ones into the slots untill you can close the clips at either end ok.
8. Once you have put them in its best to leave the case off whilst you try them to check their in ok.
plug your monitor and keyboard back in plug everything back in thats usually in their.
9. Now switch on and when your comp comes on if their in right youll get a message before windows boots up saying memory increased to what ever size you have put in check this is correct and is the same as the chips you put in ok if their the same then ok these new settings and then your comp will boot up as normal.
Check your computer by opening up the internet just to check it all works ok without freezing or shutting down.
If everything is ok then put the case back on your computer and then the jobs done you dont need software or anything like that ok.
If you have problems or the memory is wrong when it boots up like say you put 1gig in and on the screen its telling 256 then you know this is wrong so shut it down again then swap the memory cards around as they might be in wrong slot dont worry if it is this wont damage your computer.
And also shut down if when your computer comes on it freezes up or shuts down or comes up with error this can be that their in the wrong way round or it could be that the memory you have brought is not compatible with you computer ok.
But if you use the site i told you about it will tell you exactly what compatible with your comp if you follow this you wont go wrong ok.
Most people who get it wrong get the p100 or p133 the wrong way round causing the computer to freeze.
The best thing to do is remember or write down where the memory is now in your computer incase you get any problems then you can put it back as it was before changing memory then you know your computer is still going to work the way it was before.
If you have any problems or questions then let me know then i can assist you further ok.
1 remove case
2 look for the memory strip
3 remove old memory make note witch ones p100 or p133
4 insert new memory untill you can close clips
5 switch computer on check its all working ok
Remember to earth your body out before touching the memory as it can blow the chips ok touch some metal that goes to earth like radiator anything that will remove the static from your body ok.
Let me know how you get on ok

You will want to make sure you remove the existing memory and bring it with you to buy the upgrade. You will want to try to buy the same brand and type. there are two screws in the middle of the bottom of your laptop use a tiny phillips and pull the cover and you will see the memory modules. there are tabs on either side of the memory you can release the memory with these and it should pop up. on mine i replaced the 2 modules with 2 new ones 2gb each and put the old ones in my junk collection for a rainy day. the 4gb only cost $75 total at frys and they were pny. you may want to remove one of them and bring it with you and ask for help buying it.

Won't start and getting long beeps. compaq presario 6370

The beeps that you are hearing might indicate that your computer has a bad RAM or memory modules already. Reseating the memory modules might resolve the problem. That means you have to remove then place back the RAM. The full instructions in installing memory modules can be viewed from this LINK and should give you an idea how to remove and place them back. If the problem persists, replace RAM/memory module.

I hope this works for you. Kindly comment for further assistance. Thanks for using Fixya!

My compaq presario intermitantly reboots

only two most possible hardware that can cause intermittently reboot your computer, the video driver or memory. your first step to eliminate this problem is try to right click my computer then properties then click the device manager tab and double click the display adapters and then you can see the video card brand and model then right click it and click update driver using internet or online and then follow screen instruction and after installation reboot your pc and i think it works. your second step is to turn off your pc and unplug the power cable and open the casing cover of your pc and find the memory and removed from the slot of motherboard and clean the contact surface with rubber preferably pencil eraser dont touch the surface with your hand it can damaged the memory, after cleaning install back to its designated slot then fixed the casing and try to power the pc and done.

  1. go here
  2. Select your operating system

Compaq presario 2200 is very slow

If you open up Windows Explorer, right-click on 'My Computer' if you are running XP or 'Computer' if you are running Vista and select Properties from the context menu, you will be presented with a window that displays information about the installed processor and clock speed as well as the amount of memory installed in the computer.

Again in Windows Explorer, if you right-click on Local Disk (C:) and select Properties, you will be presented with a window that give you information about the amount of used space, free space and total space on the hard disk.

If you do not get the right memory for your computer it will not work. the memory you need is listed in the table below. And pay attention to the max amount of ram. Your system can only hold 2 gig and it comes with one gig installed
