You need purchase a foot control and a "motor and light block" to be able to control the speed of the machine. The machine plugs into the terminal marked motor on the motor and light block.

Could you tell me if the Thompson 200 is an industrial machine? If so, would it sew leather?

All domestic sewing machine have a one eigth horsepower motor and should cope with leather but not too thick, an industrial machine will have at least a quarter horsepower motor and the motor is the size of a domestic sewing machine

I have the Thompson model PW-400 walking foot sewing machine and when I plug it in it immediately starts running. (sewing)

I have the Thompson PW400. I know this sounds like too simple of a solution, but it actually happened to us. We accidentally plugged the machine cord into the wall outlet. Are you plugging the cord attached to the machine directly into a wall outlet or extension cord? The second part of the cord has two plugs on it, one for a light and the other for the motor. If you aren't plugging the machine cord directly into the plug marked "motor" the machine will start up immediately running at top speed. Hope that solves your problem.

Looking for user manual for Sailrite LS-1 and a source for a basic case for the same.

Go to the Sailrite site, open the "sewing machine" menu and choose "accesories". The is a case on the list which might be suitable.

Although I couldn't see any instructions option, the manufacturer should be able to supply one if you ask them, since they pubished it in the first place.
