Problem with Canon PIXMA IP5200 InkJet Photo Printer

Canon IP5200 printer - "duplicate ink tanks"

I have a Canon IP5200. About a week ago I started getting the message -
"More than one ink tank of the following color is installed:
Yellow (8)
Use only one ink tank per color at a a time."

Needless to say there is only one yellow cartridge installed. No matter what I try, I can't get past this message -
- reinstalling the printer
- holding down the resume button
- removing the print head, turning off printer, replacing
etc etc
- replacing the yellow cartridge with a new genuine canon cartridge

I have been refilling the cartridges for over a year now with no problem.

Does anyone have any ideas?

From looking on the web for the first line of the message, the colour referred to always seems to be yellow!! Very odd!

    • I also have the same "duplicate in tanks" problem, except that mine is with the Black (# 8, not 5) cartridge. My next step in attempting to resolve is to get a new cartridge - I have tried all of the same things as Sue4712 to no avail. How frustrating!

    • I had the same problem as well, with yellow. I installed the latest drivers, but the printer was still dead in the water... I replaced the yellow ink cartridge (which was not entirely empty) and printing resumed without a hitch!

Go figure... It sounds like a fault in the print cartridge.

I hope this saves someone else the frustration I went through.

    • I have the same problem except mine says cyon instead of yellow (my printer is 6700D by the way)

As you know, replacement ink cartridges are really expensive and I don't want to go ahead and buy a new ink without knowing for sure that it's going to resolve the problem.

      HELP!!!

Don't buy Canon. Canon allows this to continue, after selling you a faulty product, and does NOTHING to provide us with an answer or refund. The best way to prevent this from happening, short of any accountability from CANON, is to simply stop investing in their dishonesty. Don't buy Canon.

I have the Canon MP830 and I'm also getting a message saying:
Error Number : 1681 More than one ink tank of the following color is installed.  "Black [8]"  Use only one ink tank per color at a time.
I've already replaced that ink tank and it changed nothing.  Advice appreciated.
