My friends and I have all exchanged our codes, and most of them have worked fine, but one of my friends and I have exchanged and registered, yet it still says on both of our consoles that neither of us have registered each other.
We checked and made sure that we used the correct codes and we did. I have no idea what the problem is here.

Your problem is that your wii doesn't support dual layered disks (like Brawl) Call 1-800-255-3700 for their tech support and tell them about your situation. It should be completely free (shipping and everything) If you are told different, call repeatedly until you find someone who will set you right. plz rate
We had similar problems after buying Super Smash Bros Brawl. I noticed that the Wii could read which disc was in the system but could not load it in order to play. This seemed like a shortage of memory to me (but the error message does not indicate a memory issue). I bought a 1 gig sd memory card for the Wii and now it works perfectly. BTW the kid at the Best Buy store did not think this would work, but it did. Good Luck.
