Not sure what Operating System you are running but try right clicking on the main desktop screen and selecting properties or personalize and changing your display screen resolution to a better fit. Alternatively if you have a laptop you maybe able to change your display by pressing one of the function keys like F5 or F8.

Under the formats tab, change the format. try the ones with English (" ") and then click apply.
To see the format selected, open the On-screen keyboard ( type "osk.exe" in run) and hold shift to view the symbols.

Hello ... I was typing away and everything was fine, but then all of a sudden when I tried to get the question mark it is a French character instead. How do I get the key back to being a question mark?

Your keyboard's region layout for your computer may have changed somehow. Here's how to change it:

1. Click on Start Menu
2. Type in the bar that says "Search programs and files": Region and Language
3. Click on Keyboards and Languages tab, then click on Change Keyboards
4. In the Default input language tab, select your layout (probably English United States - US)

If it is not listed, click on Add and scroll down to your desired language and layout.

Best of luck!!

Can you change the language of a notebook

Yes. Just go into your control panel and find "clock, language and region" area.
You can customize your keyboard for a specific language or format by changing the keyboard layout. The layout controls which characters appear on the screen when you press the keys on your keyboard. Some input languages have several keyboard layouts; others have only one. For example, you can change your keyboard layout from the English QWERTY format to the English Dvorak format. After you change the layout, the characters on your screen might not correspond to the characters on your keyboard keys.
Before you can change the keyboard layout, you must add the input language and keyboard layout that you want to use to Windows.

your keyboard layout is wrong. what country are you? the default layout is US. some use UK layouts.

Depending on where the laptop was made, your keyboard layout will be different. I recommend try changing it to US,
go to start->control panel->switch to classic view(if it isn't already, else skip this step)->regional and language options->languages->details->(change your keyboard to US layout. If you can't see the option, go to "add..." and add a input language (english?) and keyboard layout)

Good Luck! if you are still struggling, just shout! I'll be here

Wrong keyboard

I suggest this, of course if you'd like: you change the keyboard layout to English (if you want to use English), can be UK or US.
Then you change what is written in the keyboard buttons with the correct one ("English" letters).
I know much in Windows, in Linux frankly speaking I don't know much (Linux has too many types). I got from this site:
http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:change_keyboard_layout_in_advanced_mode
how to change the keyboard layout:
In Advanced Mode the default keyboard layout is set to the US. These instructions inform KDE to use a different layout; for example the UK.
  • Launch / Control Centre / Control Centre, and select Peripheral Devices / Keyboard Layout
  • Under Available layouts select your country then click Add ».
  • Change layout variant to eeepc.
  • Click Apply.
  • Under Active layouts select U.S. English then click Remove.
  • Click Apply.
You can find the international keyboard layout here (example for English US):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#US

If your computer already set for English keyboard layout, if you push your button, it should follow that international keyboard layout. (can be with some small modification). You can just try out for each button.
