Usually you fix the convergence problem on AV-65WP74 replacing the STK392-110s, then do an convergence realign setup. You need to desolder and take the chips out and put a new pair in and soldered them back. their cost vary fron $7 to $40. Labour may be expensive.

Well, replacing convergenge ICs on your tv board involve unsoldering them and precision soldering them back on the board without blowing the rest of the tv. It is not a difficult task if you have esperience with this kind of works. If you have scarce or no experience in servicing electronics you may risk to cause further damage. You will need to replace one, or both circuits indicated as IC804 and IC805.Start from IC804 and see if it works, then eventually repace IC805.
Both ICs should be replaced with STK392-110 or STK392-150, last one offers more resistance to heat.
You will need service manual or schematics to do the job.
If you sign up in this forum they will send you service manual for free.
This one here instead will sell
    AV65WP74/HA Service Manual for $15.
Leave your tv set unplugged from power for a while before servicing it and ensure you are using right tools and equipment.

Most projection TVs have an option to refocus. For example, my Sony rear projection TV has a button on the front for focusing the lamps. Try finding this button or option in the menus with your remote. I think what your are assuming as lens is the blue lamp that has gone bad..

Does it take some type of gel under the lights, the colors are a little blurry

i also have this tv. i removed backcleaned mirrior, back of screen and lenses VERY GOOD. Then turned on tv go to convergence, sepaerate cross hairs then adjust focus on lenses. Then lenses rotate maybe about a 1/3 turn total by hand. Grab ring that houses lenses and turn until cross hairs are as clear as possible. This can be done with out help by watching inside of screen. red and green are adjustable, the blue is adjustablealso but i couldnt find blue cross hairs, maybe by covering red and green lenses the blue will show on screen. anyway when done and cross hairs are clear, lenses, mirror and screen are clean, you can adjust covergence and get a very clear screencleaning will also brighten pic. RCA 52 HDTV working fine when suddenly a band of color, red, blue and green appeared at top of screen. Picture curved inward from top and bottom. Picture is blurry and has double images. Television is less...

There could be a convergence problem. Try these:
  1. Press MENU then choose SETUP>AUTO CONVERGENCE.
  2. When Auto Convergence is complete, the Red center convergence menu appears. The cross in the middle of the screen should be yellow. If it is not, use the arrow buttons to move the red cross to overlap the green cross. Press OK when adjustment is complete.
  3. The Blue center convergence menu appears with a cyan cross in the middle of the screen. If it is not, use the arrow buttons to move the blue cross to overlap the green cross. Press OK.

Red/Orange horizontal lines

it could be that the tv convergence circuit is going bad. One shure way of finding out is to go to the tv feature menu(picture, audio etc.) and select the customer convergence setting, you should get a cross hair pattern(cross in middle of screen). that cross should be white and by aligning the red or blue colors they should move left, right, up or down

Curved blue lines on screen.

You have a completely different problem. The screen voltage for the blue picture tube is slightly too high on your set. This will put fine lines in the background of the picture, called retrace lines. This is very common and easy to correct. Remove the front speaker cover and the access panel behind it. Look inside and you will see a black box with six controls, each control having a little white glue on it. This is the Focus/Screen block. Three controls are labeled Focus and three are labeled Screen. The screen control in the center is for green but I am not sure if the screen control on the left or right is for blue for your model. With the TV on, set it to VIDEO 1 but do not connect anything to the VIDEO 1 jacks. This will produce a pure dark picture, showing any faint lines in the background. Choose one of the screen controls and increase (turn clockwise) it slightly. If the blue lines do not get brighter it means you are turning the red screen control, so put it back where it was and choose the other screen control. When you find the blue screen control, decrease (turn counter-clockwise) it until just when the blue lines are gone. If you want you can check that the red and green screen controls are set to just below the point where their faint lines are visible. When done, replace the panels and your picture will be back to perfect.

You have to try auto convergance from the menu.
There ust be convergance adjustment on menu. You will find cross at center of the screen.green cross is the refrance ,you have to overlap red and blue to form white cross.
once you have formed white cross than the picture will be perfect.

PT 47 convergence IC's? box? both?

Always suspect the IC's first, digital convergence prblems are actually pretty rare IC's go everyday. I'd check partsore .com Generics usually work fine, they are probably STK392-110's but check to make sure.

Convergence

If the CRT Projection television has several colors or one that arent lining up, if due to an impact - you may have a broken mirror, if just happened all by itsself it may be a convergence issue, either issue is repairable, probably for around $400-$500. I dont recommend taking a set like that into the shop as sometimes transport can break/crack a mirror or throw convergence off.
