Poweredge 2300 Configuration Help Appriciated :)

Hey guys, Im new to this whole 'server' thing! I have a Dell PE2300 with 6 harddrives, im trying to configure them so I can install Win NT Server 4,
Setup says it cant find harddrives, all drives are formated ready to go and system is at 'default' settings but thats as far as I can get,
Could anyone give me a clue on the steps I need to take? I know its a long winded situation but many thanks in advance!

Regards
Darryl

Does it boot into an operating system at all? or does it stop during bio checks and stuff?

gonna need more info. when you say formated and ready, that doesn't help since the setup for Win NT 4 should ask if you want to format the drives. Are they scsi drives? If you have 6 drives, it might might want to be configured with RAID. the best way to do that if you're 'new to the whole server thing' is to use the dell's setup disk or one that came with the raid card in the server. Do you have any of the original disks?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

A SCSI device would be a hard drive. Sound like you need to check the network cable, card, and configuration. Start by doing a simple ping.

ipconfig /all is the cmd to see the settings. Then ping the Gateway listed.

We have a Dell Poweredge 4400 & a Dell Poweredge 2300. Both have amber lights blinking - hard-disk failure indicators. They are using RAID. What do I need to do?

Go into the RAID setup during bootup (not always in the BIOS), but will post somewhere on startup (should say SCSI/SAS Controller card press CTRL + M to enter setup) or similar.

When in the raid setup check to see the status of the drive(s).

Was the machine running and it's just happened etc or are these machines you have obtained and are plain not working?

Dell PowerEdge 2300 - Monitor, keyboard and mouse will not respond

It sounds like the power supply is failing.

Failing power supplies will sometimes deliver just enough power to make the fans spin but not enough for the motherboard and drives to start.

I hope this helps.

Servers usually don't come with sound cards. If you really need one, you must install one. If it is truly a server, I would recommend against it.
