Question about Nikon CoolScan V ED Film Scanner

NIKON COOLSCAN V ED BOUGHT IN FRANCE

Hi, Could you please confirm if I can plug my Coolscan V ED in the USA. I bought it in France and used it with 220 volts. It says 100/240 volts on the back of the scanner (I cannot find my manual) so I should be able to make it work in the USA using 120 volts but I'd rather be sure before I plug it and fry it. Thank you very much in advance for your help. Stevie

Yes, if its 100-240 volts and 50-60Hz then it will work in the US. You will need a plug adapter though so it will fit a wall jack. If its for long term use, you might want to consider getting the power cord replaced.

According to the Nikon site the software for the Coolscan is not compatible for Mac OS Lion, you need to purchase silverfast to get it to work see http://www.scandig.com/filmscanner/nikon/nikon-coolscan-v-ed.html silverfast can be bought from http://www.silverfast.com/ you can download a demo from here to see if it works.

Nikon Coolscan IV ED Jam Solution

926fb88.jpg

Do you find your older slides, cardboard slides, or irregular slides jam in the Nikon SF-210 Slide Feeder for your Nikon CoolScan IV ED?

Try this solution:

Take a AAA battery and place it in rear, left side of the slide feeding tray as pictured below:

4f7ce74.jpg

The slides will fan out nicely, and your Nikon CoolScan IV ED will no longer try to load more than one at a time. Instead it will load them one at a time, 50 per tray, and you can actually walk away from it and let it do its job, just the way you intended to when you bought the SF-210 slide feeder attachment!

I hope that helps.

I bought a GE microwave oven model wes1450dm1bb at the USA, but now I am in a different conutry that uses 220 volts as standard. I just read the user manual and in any place says the voltage of the...

No, You'll burn up the appliance. When I was in Germany there were commercially available transformers to step the current down. The transformers plug into the 220 sockets and provide several 110 sockets to plug your appliance into. We purchased several transformers and ran our 110 tvs, kitchen appliances and other 110 appliances. The 220 sockets in Germany were different than 110 and 110 plugs sould not fit.

Can i use an Xbox 360 bought in USA in India - given the voltage conversion required? would there be any seperate adaptor available for 220 volt usage in India

You can purchase a volt adapter (rather common in travel stores/airports) but over time the device's power-supply will wear out because of the frequency difference.

North America runs at 60hz
India runs at 50hz

I need the amount of amps used for multiple pieces of equipment

I'll hazard a guess that you are trying to run these things off of a single household electrical circuit and want to avoid an overload. In that case, the best way is to determine how many Watts each device uses. That information can either be found on the back/bottom of the unit, or on the AC adaptor that came with it. In the latter case, use the "input power" value.

Once you know the wattage, divide by the input voltage - 120 Volts in the US, 100 Volts in Japan, or 240 Volts in Europe, Australia, and much of Asia.

For example...the info on the bottom of my boombox indicates 120V at 16W...

Watts / Volts = Amps
18W / 120V = 0.15A

In another example, my laptop power supply has the following info...

120V-240V @ 160W input
15.4V @ 145W output

I use 120 Volts here so the math goes...

160W / 120V = 1.333A

Note that the output values are not used.

If I want to know how much current the devices use together, I merely add them...

Boombox Amps + Laptop Amps = Total Amps

0.15A + 1.333A = 1.483A

I hope this helps !
