Heres wht u can do.. go to www.support.hp.com enter the model no. of ur printer and search for drivers.. on the next page.. choose support and driver and 1) Update drivers for the printer.. 2) download drivers as per OS of ur computer.. Uninstall the printer from the computer.. start installing the printer again.. but do not plug the USB device to the computer till it prompts u to.. once this is done the issue would be resolved..
let me know if this was useful to u regards, guru

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

How to use the scanner on my HP 2170 Printer?

First make sure you have the full featured software installed if it is available for your all-in-one. For the 2170, download the software from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=90807&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=90805&taskId=135 . Uninstall a generic driver and unplug the USB cable before installing the full software (ie install software before plugging in the data cable). Avoid print servers and USB hubs; if there are any problems try a new cable first. Scanners require bi-directional communication so a bad cable will cause more problems with the scanner than with the printer.

Vista and Win7 both use a driver built into the OS; so just plug in the data cable. (If Windows Update is set to automatically install drivers for new hardware, it will quickly install the files. Otherwise check Windows Update.)

You can get the manuals from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=64179&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=90805 .

If you have the full featured software, you will need to set up the destinations for the scanner buttons in the HP software. So start that program and scan from the computer first. (The buttons will not work if an HP monitor is not running to "see" the button presses.)

If you are using the OS driver, the buttons will not work. However, Win7 and Vista will acquire scans in several programs: Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner) and Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) among others.

I hope this helps.

Hp 2175 all in one displays scanner failed mesage

Performing a partial reset
Follow the steps below to perform a partial reset of the all-in-one:
  1. Unplug the power cord from the all-in-one.
  2. In the table below, locate the button combination for your model.

NOTE:
If your all-in-one model is not listed in the table, your model does not have a partial reset option.
  1. Press and hold the button combination for your all-in-one.
  2. While still holding the buttons down, plug the power cord back in. Release the buttons after the all-in-one starts up.
  3. (FROM THE TABLE) HP PSC 2170 series --Press and hold Cancel and the Left Arrow while plugging in the power cord.

I have a hp psc 2175 all-in-one printer w/out install cd

You didn't mention what you were using for an Operating System but you can choose whichever one you're using at THIS LINK.

As far as hooking it up, HP has instructions at THIS LINK and it says 2170 but that includes 2175. They do whole "series" of printers.

I hope those links are helpful and if you have any other problems let me know.

I can't scan anything on this machine

As long as you have downloaded the software that came with printer and installed the printer with an usb cable, it should be really easy such as just hitting the scan button and it will pull up the pic after scanning.

Printer won't work

Unplug the printer from the power and replug it in, the printer will go through its post(the little dance they do when they start up) and should come back to a ready status.
