Question about Pitco Frialator SG14 Deep Fryer

1 Answer

Burner Welds I have been using Keating Fryers for years but the burner tube welds keep cracking and releasing shortning (there are shields that are supposed to keep some of the heat away from the welds but they don't solve the problem). I have replaced many fry "pots." Do Pitco Fryalators have a better tube design and how often can I expect to replace the fryer pot (vessel) because burner tube welds break? Joe

You have your burners misaligned with the tubes. Re-align the burners and the welds will hold up fine.

Deep fryer catching on fire

From the video it appears many things could be wrong. The baffles and burner tubes could be clogged, the burner itself can be clogged, the flue is blocked, or this unit is using the wrong type of gas, ie: propane on a natural gas fryer.
Recommended steps for troubleshooting.
1. Verify proper gas type. Natural or Propane.
2. Check Burners, tubes, and baffles, clean all soot and debris from them.
3. Check for and remove any obstructions from the flue.

I have a pitco deep fryer... Everything works fine, but when the burners go off, I get a popping sound that blows out my pilot light

It sounds like the burners and tubes may be dirty and clogged in your fryer. The burners are removable and need to be cleaned periodically. The tubes can be cleaned when the burners are out using a burner cleaning brush. If the above mentioned items appear to be clean, you may have a gas pressure issue.

What are most common problems found with pitco frialator fryers?

Some of the most common problems with Pitco fryers is failed Hi-Limit thermostats, carbon build up on burner tubes, and dirty or clogged burners. This hi-limit thermostat is mounted inside the fry tank on one of the burners. Often the cappillary tubes are damaged or broken during cleaning causing the limit to fail. The hi-limit is the most common part I replace on Pitco fryers. The other common items are self explanitory. Keep the fryer clean in all areas, including burners and tubes. You will see the repair man less often.

Why is the fryer releasing black smut from unit.

Hello Mrscajun,

The fryer is releasing black smut as you call it because the air gas mixture is not adjusted properly. On the burner tubes you will see a little opening that has a screw that needs to be loosened and open and close the door as the unit is running until you get a pretty blue flame. After you get a pretty blue flame you will want to tighten the screw down so that the door does not move.

Thank you for using FIxYa for your question.

SR 142 GP, flames shoot out of exhaust stack to the right. What would cause this?

First look down the stack, with the fryer off, and see if there is something that fell down in there. If that is not the case then check to ensure that all of the burners are on when you turn the fryer on. If those check out OK then you probably have soot buildup in the burner tube. Remove the burners and clean out the tubes.

Main burner too hot & 2nd burner pilot won't

Set t/stat to 250 degrees. If it does not shut off after about 5 minutes, replace t/stat.If shuts off, must be calibrated Pilot may be dirty, flame weak. If flame strong, replace thermopile(pilot generator). If weak, must remove and clean pilot orifice inside pilot.

What type brushes do you use to clean pitco gas fryers

Cleaning the frypot or the inside of the burner tubes themselves ? The frypot can be cleaned using a RED scrub pad. You can get a boiler tube brush & extension set from United Refrigeration for about $20. You need the brass brush end that screws on the 36 inch t-handle extension.
