SOURCE: my valentine 1 radar detector gives afalse alert to the rear

It has to go back in for service. Possibly the tech either forgot or didn't properly reflow the solder contacts on the LO board which makes contact between the LO board and the horn's ridge. It isn't something which you should even think about attempting to repair yourself. Send it back in and they will get it right this time.

SOURCE: Can you tell me what is wrong with my valentine one radar detector please

Old thread but This is probably a fried DC/DC converter inside the detector. Fuses are good for shorts but connecting to double the operating voltage will kill your electronics every time. Valentine 1 is the best. I beat laser with mine. Mike Valentine stands behind his product but you broke it so they probably will charge you for repair. If you have 24V system for stereo then any plugs or terminals need to be obviously marked. Try using a color that you can't mistake like yellow. .Or use a 12v power amp and your neighbors will be much happier.

My valentine one will not pick up speed camera vans now it was working on KA band then went to K band now will not pick up?

They are using instant-on radar that has a weak K-band signal that is used to turn on the radar when you are in range. The signal is so weak that you cant detect it until you are in range of the main radar set. This is also known as radar detector countermeasures. Laser is worse. I have beaten laser twice with my Valentine 1 in California where it requires 2 reads to nail you. Slam on the brakes when your detector alerts..

I just bought a v1 but it goes off everywhere. how do i set it correctly for nz roads

That's the way it should be.. Burglar alarms and stoplight sensors transmit on the same wavelengths as radar but mostly X and K band which are hardly ever used for traffic radar anymore. KA band is better and that is what most use now. depends on where you are, Find out what the local jurisdictions use. You have to get used to alerts and learn what is real or not. It's like using any kind of locator like a metal detector. It tells you there is a signal and even tells you the direction. Would you want to trust it to decide which signal was real?

Goes off frequently with no radar nearby

False alarms are common with most radar detectors. You may need to adjust your detector's settings to compensate for the interference that sets off the alarm. Check your user's manual for instructions on using the menu.

The K band keeps going off when I install it in my car with a Viper Alarm with radar field perimeter sensor

See if you can turn off the field perirmeter sensor - these can make detectors alarm. This sensor should have been wired so that it was only on when the alarm was "Armed".

Keeps going off randomly.

if its when your driving, then its picking up alarm systems.

If you are not on a major highway this is less likey.

the unit has city mode and highway mode.

Getting false alarm from laser. Laser alarm keeps

If the laser continuously falses even with the car's ignition turned off, then your radar detector has an internal electronics problem. If your radar detector frequently or nearly continuously falses for laser while you are driving even in the middle of nowhere, then most likely the cause of the problem is either poor power and ground connections or electrical noise within your vehicle's electrical system.
