Question about Lite On LH-20A1H DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

Open Question

LiteOn Dual Layer DVD driver won't read burned double layer DVDs

I recently burned two dual layer DVD discs with a LiteOn SHM 165H65 Burner.
I had to put on a new installation of XP after that and now it won't read the dual layer discs I recently burned on it. Can you please advise?

That's a good point. I burned them with Roxio 10 and it may have been set by default to be left open. SO that may be my problem. I wonder if I can check that or close them somehow to make them work ok.

when you burned the disks, did you leave them unfinished, so that more data could be added later?

In general, if you don't finish the disk, only the computer and software that created the disk can read it.

SOURCE: Can't Burn Dual-Layer Disks

First, be sure your DVD burner is capable of burning dual-layered discs- Second, it may be rather an issue of copy protection on the disc. Have you succesfully copied commercial DVD's in this fashion? I'm unsure if I'm allowed to mention any software that might assist you in that regard- google is your friend.

Can this device burn double layer DVD disk?

That would depend on the burner drive and if it has dual layer support built in. Look on the front plate of the drive tray and look for DL somewhere near the DVD letters. If you see a DL then it will burn double layer disc. You would also need to have blank Dual Layer DVD-R discs. It will not burn dual layers on a standard 4.6 GB DVD it would have to be an 8.6 GB DVD. You will also need a burning software that has Dual Layer burning support.

What does "multi layer support" mean. Does it write multi layer discs? or is it able only to read them? Also, what is a lightscribe?

Multi-Layer support means the drive can Read/Write a Dual-Layer discs.

Lightscribe means you can create a label on a disk.

Everything is the same except you have to choose "DVD-R 9.0G" at the bottom of the DVD maker window. R4.5G is single layer and 9.0G is dual layer.

Let me know if you need more help,

Hi : I have a HP Pavillion a1218n (P4) computer that is about three years old. I would like to burn data to 8.5 GB Dual Layer - Single sided DVD storage media disks. My CD/DVD burner : burns, flip, burn...

Greetings,
Your dvd drive is not capable of burning a dual layer disc. You need to have a burner that is capable of sending the laser through to the second layer of the disc. That said you can get a DL burner for around 30 dollars. Click HERE to see one from Newegg.com.
I am not sure what you mean by 'burns, flip, burn dvds.' but if you make another comment I will respond.
Take Care,

HP DVD 740e wont burn Dual Layers anymore!

Try re-installing the software associated with the burner, so it installs the necessary drivers and files needed for the burner to work according to your needs.

Also check the connections and cables... sometimes moving it around causes the cables to loose some contacts.

Hope this helps...
