Question about Sony MHC-GX450 CD Shelf System

Power problems My stereo keeps shutting off out of the blue..... i have my ipod hookup playing through the game mode but more of the problem is the entire stereo unit shuts down in mid songs or just anytime. Its not like it turns off, it looses all power, completely shuts off. the power button has a red flashing light but wont turn back on. If i change plugs it sometimes turns back on....it has been happening more frequently lately. Any ideas?

The set is detecting a problem internally and shutting down to prevent further damage. This is often call protection mode. I would guess that there is either a bad connection somewhere or a part starting to fail. If there is a pattern to the failures, a quick trip to the repair shop is in order armed with that info. Rough guess would be abaout $30 in parts plus the local labor rate. This is based upon my own repair experience with these systems.

the interface will probably only work with the phillips software, but many of those stereos support playing from a flash drive.

How to reset my sony mhc-gs100??? it keep saying power protect...

Your stereo went into protect mode to prevent complete failure of the amplifier inside that radio. Most of the time this happens from playing the stereo real loud for a real long time and it overheats. Most of the time disconnecting the receiver/stereo and letting it cool all the way down or at least 5 minutes and then reconnecting it to the power source will reset the protection mode. You want to make sure you are keeping the radio cool. Don't stack anything on top of it and try keeping a small fan blowing on it to expedite the heat out from the unit. Also turning it down every now and then to let everything cool down a bit will help prevent it from going into protection mode as well.

SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE TRYING TO PLUG INTO THE HEADPHONES JACK AT THE FRONT ! NO GOOD . YOU NEED TO HAVE STEREO ON. AND USE AUX. TO DO THIS pLUG IN YOUR MP3 PLAYER WITH 3.5 STEREO JACK OTHER END BACK OF STEREO INTO AUX. RED AND WHITE RCA PLUGS.
THIS LEAD COSTS LESS THAN $7.00 AND THE SOUND IS VERY LOUD THEN. !
I DID IT MYSELF AND AM HAPPY WITH IT .

Is there a way to hook up an ipod to this stereo so it will play the ipod music through the stereo? Can I purchase a docking station that will hook up to this stereo?

Just get an adapter for to connect from the Ipod headphone jack to a standard RCA cable pair. Jack into AUX or whatever available input you have.

Harman Kardon go + play problem

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, pls try cleaning the battery terminals. In some instances, it may be necessary to scrape them to remove corrosion. Still there are times they may have to be bent or stretched to ensure that they provide more pressure to the batteries. Alternately, pls try to confirm that the AC adapter is working by checking for the presence of voltage on the plug/connector with the use of a voltmeter.

Should the above not address your concern, then it is most likely that the problem is internal electronics and the unit is simply going into protective mode. You then have a choice of performing a DIY (do-it-yourself) or seeking the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Harman Kardon Go + Play Portable Speaker Keeps Shutting Off

I just had this exact problem. I'm using an ipod mini. I solved it by docking the ipod firmly at the angle
the dock is at and have the ipod at an angle, not flat. I put the plastic and rubber adapter for the mini as instructed and also placed the rubber adapter for the nano upside down to keep
the ipod propped at an angle. (Also can use something similar to keep ipod propped up at an angle)
Took a while when I first used to figure out how the dock worked. The dock is a little weird how it is hinged to go from an angle to flat. Nothing in the instructions about this. By putting the ipod flat it would still have a connection to charge and play but the power shuts off every 10 minutes. I spent a whole night having it shut off every 10 minutes. This drives me crazy when systems have features like that which always seems to cause more problems (just my humble opinion)
By having the ipod at an angle I'm currently just now having it run an hour and 20 minutes and counting with no shut offs,(fingers crossed) but so far so good.
Saw on the internet that if the ipod is not connected firmly the system has an auto shut down. I think the ipod's weight propped at an angle keeps the connection firm. Also some said they want to see the ipod display, there you go!!!! This seems to be working so far for me, may be worth a try...I was about to return mine but I love the sound so I'm keeping mine now!!!! Works fine. Happy camper again.
Please reply if this works for anyone it worked for me.

IPod connection

Yes there is. You need to purchase a 1/8 inch jack (standard headphone input) to RCA (red and white) cord, they usually run approx. $20 - $25). Once you have that what you'll need to do is plug the RCA cord into the back of the stereo (corresponding colors, red into the red, white into the white) and set the function to Game (MD). You can do this by pressing the button on your remote or by pressing the function button on the main consul until you see MD on the monitor, press play on your ipod and you're good to go!

Can't do anything - LCD screen says "PROTECT"

It may be that there is a problem with a fuse inside the stereo. It may say protect because the fuse has broken a connection that allows it to turn on. If the protect goe sup it is trying to help save the stereo from cooking its self, and give you a chance to get it fixed. If that is not the problem then it may be easier to just buy a new one, because a fix may be expensive if you don't have any warranties.
