Question about HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One InkJet Printer

2 Answers

I need to disassemble an HP Photosmart C8180 to get at the CMOS battery. I have the very common 0xc18a0401 Ink System Failed and because I have the C8180 I cannot do with the various suggestions on this forum or any others because I DO NOT have the same control panel as the 6180, 5180, and whatever else has the better control panel. I seen a post somewhere where it is suggested to remove the CMOS battery, and that it worked in 2 of 11 printers. I ain't got nothing to lose. Well maybe some 12 guage slugs but it would be worth it.

This didn't/doesn't work.
You need to remove the battery to reset the cmos. Taking it to have it serviced will cost more than replacing the cartridge. Don't waste your money.

This is most common error in inkjet HP inkjet printers. But you are not mentioned model number, any how try this:
Step 1.
> Remove all the supplies like print heads & cartridges..
> Remove USB or any other device connectivity from system.
> Switch off the printer.
> Wait couple of minutes.
> Switch on the printer, wait till printer asked for the supplies.
> Insert supplies as per specified messages.
> Check for ready mode, insert data cable & give print command.
>>>Check.. no message.. END.
Step 2:
> If problem remain same..(I will suggest for tech guys)
> switch off the machine, remove all the supplies
> Open printer side covers.
> find out the CMOS batter mounted on formatter ,remove it..
> wait couple of minutes..
> with out CMOS batter do the above said step 1 process.
> check.. I hope it will resolve this issue..give print command.. verify..once its resolved CMOS batter has to be installed.
> Switch off the machine,
> insert CMOS battery,
> do again step1 process,,..

Try the link below. This error is related to air in the lines between the print head and the cartridges. It is quite common and HP are very aware of this.

HPC8180 Did not follow intitial instructions and now have ink system failure. Hp unable to help sent me brand new ink cartridges, I tried to reset with no success. Any help?

Follow the instructions on this web page to prime ink through the lines and hopefully clear the error. I don't know why HP sent you new ink cartridges when it should be obvious to them that the cartridges are not the problem.

HP Photosmart C8180 - Ink System Failure - Oxc18a0101

i had exactly this error message. Rang HP. They said it was a hardware failure, they couldn't fix over phone, would cost 2x cost of new printer to fix, but they offered me 20% discount on new printer if ordered over the phone.

But with some fiddling, problem now resolved. Here's what I did:

- press Red Eye Removal and Print Photos button together
- goes to Mfg Commands -> Enter Special Keys Combo. Press OK
- uaiux Support page (some code) -> click right arrow key until you get to System Configuration Menu - click oK
- should say hardware failure status - click OK
- says hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear
- I clicked OK on this and system reset itself and problem was solved
