Hi,
IN order to change the margins you need to putt the printhead where you want the margin to be set, and holding down the CODE key, push the key under where L MAR or R MAR is printed, (above the top keys on the keyboard) depending on whether you want to set the right or left margin.

If you want to set the left margin to the left of where it's set, hold down the CODE key and push the key under MAR REL. Then using the Backspace (or spacebar, if you backspace too far) position the printhead where you want the mar. set and holding down the CODE key, hit the key under L MAR.

THis would laso be applicable while setting the right margin.

How do I increase the margins on the typewriter

To set a margin beyond the left or right margin, move the carrier (or cursor) to that margin, press the Margin Release key, then proceed to move the carrier (or cursor) to the desired position. Then, press the Left or Right margin key to set the new margin. A beep will sound indicating the new margin has been set. When you set a new left or right margin, the previous margin is automatically cleared.

Alternatively, you can type beyond the right margin by pressing the Margin Release key and then continue typing when the carrier (or cursor) stops at the right margin. To type beyond the left margin, press the Margin Release key and then the Backspace key to move the carrier (or cursor) to the position where you want to start typing.

How to reset the margins on Brother EM-530

On most electronic typewriters you change the margins by pressing the code button and holding down the press r margin or l margin on the key board. You want the carrier to be where you want the margin set. To set margins beyond the right or left margin move the carrier to the margin and press margin release to go past the margin. Then press code left or right margin.

How to type in Landscape form of paper .

Roll the paper in sideways. Use the Margin Release key to allow you to backspace to the left of your left margin, then touch the Left Margin key to set the margin at the new location. Go to the right margin and use the Margin Release key again to allow you to space past the right margin, then touch the Right Margin key to set the new margin there.
Type.

How to use the margin release for Brother EM-530

Is Margin Release on it's own separate button on the EM-530? If so, then to move beyond a margin:
  • Use Return or Tab to go to the left or right existing margin.
  • Touch Margin Release.
  • Use the Backspace or Space bar to go beyond the margin in question.
  • If you want to set a new margin, then go to the location you want to have it and touch the Left margin or Right Margin button.
Some models may require the CODE key to access one or more of these functions. If the function name is not printed on the top of the key, but on its front or on the surrounding plastic above the button, press and hold the CODE key while touching that button (just as you hold the Shift key to type capitals). The CODE key might possibly have a different name; chances are it's color will match the functions it works with.

How to clear margin when in use

Left margin...use the code key (colored)
Move the carriage to where you want the margin, use margin release if you have to go beyond the present margin, and use the margin set key to set.
You have to reset a margin. can't just clear one.
Can set margins at each end of the typing line, then you will have no margins.
Hope this helps!!!

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.

Margin clearing and resetting

You cannot "clear" the margins. You have a left margin and right margin. They MUST be set somewhere even if they are set at the extreme left and right of the carriage. This part is IMPORTANT!!! Some functions (like right margin or margin release) may be written in a different color or shade. If they are, you must hold down the CODE or FUNCTION key while touching that function. In any case, the CODE key or similar will be the same color as the function you are trying to access. Get the printer where you want the margin to be. If you want the left margin set to the left of the current margin you will have use the MARGIN RELEASE key first. This may be labeled MREL or MAR REL or something similar. Backspace to where you want the margin to be then press the LMAR or LEFT MARGIN key. That will set the left margin at that point. Repeat the process for the right margin. Hope that helps Ed
