Have you checked if the room temperature is higher than what you have set on the controller (thermostat) otherwise it may not turn on. Do you have to press heat or cool button on the controller to switch from heating to cooling or does it change automatically depending on the temperature setting and the room temperature.

Try to turn off the mains power and start with the cooling cycle. If the problem persists with cooling and not heating then check if atleast the fan is running. If this is ok then confirm if the compressor (outside) turns on. Sometimes due to lack of sufficient refrigerant the compressor may not cut in. (leak test will confirm this).

Good luck.

Sorry the fixya.com system does not allow experts to view the full problem comments when responding to customers. This means I missed all the details that followed your problem comment yesterday in response to other experts.

I did not know that you had already provided the full model numbers of your units and a detailed description of the problem you are having with heating function. Please ignore my yesterday's comments. (11th May).

I realise your unit might be described in this document

    http://www.ahi-carrier.co.nz/uploads/pdf...

Please confirm if this is correct. (look at the cover page right hand side bottom where it gives the model numbers of your outdoor and indoor units).

Do you operate in HEAT mode or AUTO Mode?

Are the temperature settings within the recommended range for heating cycle? (see page 23).

Please confirm if the LCD flashing is on the remote control unit or the main indoor unit?

Check if the timer is not set which means you might not be operating in the Manual mode.

Have you tried to turn off the mains power to both the units (indoor and outdoor) and turned back on after a few minutes?

Please post your comment as clarification to my above questions.

    ---cmmiuser01.

I have tried in manual and auto ,the LED is on the inside unit (unit on ) I thought three flashes represent a fault. It does not change over from cold to hot, my be change over valve is stuck.

Apart from this the unit works fine.

This is a serious problem, But below is an application and servicing guide, this should sort you out,as to troubleshooting, and what to do. http://www.docs.hvacpartners.com/idc/groups/public/documents/techlit/38-10sm.pdf
You need to call a professional, as I think you will agree after perusing the manuals, In any event the Service manual should help you track it down. Any electrical flashes are never good, and usually indicate a bad connection, one must be careful, as arcing and flashing can lead to fires. You must make the unit safe to work on it, please be careful.

Please offer additional Mamke and Model #'s of your equipment to include "indoor" and "outdoor".

    Thanks. :-)

  • laura Newman May 07, 2010

Thanks for that information Rick. I am in the process now of obtaining information specific to your unit(s).

  • laura Newman May 11, 2010

    Rick,

It is with regret that I have been unsuccessful in locating information specific to your unit.

I can only suggest turning off the circuit breaker(s) to your system for approx 10 minutes. Then turn them back on and try your heat again. I truly wish I could have found more information on your system so that I could better serve you.

    Very Respectfully,

    Laura

Flashing clean and heat light?

Sounds like you might have lint build up. Clean out lint trap and remove the back and clean out all lint. The lint build up could be causing a over heating problem. And this is a fire hazard.

IF THE MACHINE START IT SHOWS FLASH AFTER 2min

test this steps and fix it. God bless you

Heating Element

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element might have burned out. The heating element heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.
