Craftsman 22" self propelled platinum series lawnmower died while pushing it. wont restart. ????

A good place to start is taking the air filter off. Then try stArtingvit again. Often a dirty air filter will not allow a mower to stay running. If that does not help. Remove the cover under the carburetor looking for dirt in the cover. Also well the cover is off remover the small pin that holds the float in place. Pull the neddle valve out cleaning it and the other parts with a carburetor cleaner then reassemble

Toro lawn mower troubleshooting

Clean the carb, gas tank and fuel line (s). Replace air filter with a new one, I wouldn't recommend that you run it without the filter because that allows dirt and grass debri to enter the carb, fuel line and gas tank.
Replace the plug with a new one that is recommended for your engine.
Check oil level.

Other option is lawn mower repair shop....

Hope this helps, I had the same problem.

Craftsman mower with 6.75 B&S motor will start and run fine for about 3-4 minutes and then slowly chokes out. I cleaned the air filter and need to know what to check next. Thanks.

hi there
though you have cleaned the filter it could still be not getting enough air you can start the machine without it and see if stays running do not do work with it just see if it runs sitting there if it does simple fix new filter however if it does the same it is a lack of fuel either fuel filter if has one if not it will be in the carburater these get gumed up by old gas in which in that case find a small engine repair shop to take care of this issue
thank you for the question hope i helped with the issue good luck and have a great day

Have gts toro, engine starts then stops can not get it started.. r s

Your mower engine has to have these things WORKING to run: 1. Compression (engine in good shape) 2. Strong Spark (magneto air gap has to be correct for strong spark) 3. Clean air ( good, clean air filter w/no air leaks) 4. Clean, fresh fuel supply (gas less than 30 days olds with an inline filter installed in mower's fuel line). These things are assuming the mower hasn't struck an immovable object such as concrete, tree stump etc. recently. This will shear the flywheel key and timing may be off so far that engine won't start. So, where would you like to start my friend? Try checking these things. In the meanwhile....we can try to "coax" the engine into running. Remove the spark plug. Get an aerosol can of carb/choke cleaner spray. Spray a couple of shots into the engine. Reinstall plug. Choke the carb and attempt to start. This may or may not work, according to the conditions listed earlier. If this doesn't get it running, remove the plug and try it again.
We are trying to get it to run on its own, so it will start (or attempt to start) drawing fuel from the carburetor. Sometimes the brass bolt that holds the carburetor float bowl on gets clogged. You drain the gas, remove the bolt and clean all the small hole in the bottom and along the sides of it. This bolt is also the main jet of the carb. Cleaning this with carb cleaner can only help. If you do this, use NO metal objects to poke or scrape the bolt. The holes are metered and have to stay that way. Check for spark, check your air filter, see if the plug gets wet after you attempt to start. If it doesn't get wet or even smell like gas, then likely you have a fuel flow problem. Try ALL these things and post back; and again, if you have hit something solid recently with the mower, you will have the replace the flywheel shear key. It is a small aluminum $1.00 part so don't worry. Post back as needed. We wish to help.

"Poulan" Push Mower: the mower will start but not stay running...

Have you checked the spark plug to see if it is fouled? If thats not it, maybe the air filter is clogged. If that still isnt the case try some B-12 small engines carb cleaner. Use it generously.

My mower starts and stays running for about 5 seconds then quits..has gas and oil any clues

Check gas line. Check for a gas filter and replace it. Replace spark plug. If the prob continues - it might need the carb rebuilt.. If a small engine sits to long without being run - the gas will shellac in the carb and render it to not function properly..

have a great day !

Engin will not stay running dies

No fuel filter but there is the air filter. Try removing the air filter and starting the mower. If this works replace the air filter. If not, then check the engine's carb. Engine was made by Tecumseh. There aren't many parts to a Tecumseh carb so replacing the few parts (gasket around bowl, float, needle and seat) isn't a lot of trouble.

I have a troy built self propelled mower, it ran great last season, now it will not stay running. I checked to see if it was getting fuel and it is. I primed it and it acts like it is going to run and then...

The jets in carbs are really small and clog easily. If you stored your mower with gas in it start by replacing the gas. Remove the air filter and prime the carb. Start the engine and place your fingers over the air intake on the carb. This will cause the engine to stall as it will be starved for air. It will also create a powerful suction on the jets and possibly dislodge a blockage. Prime the engine again and start. If does not continue to run, repeat the steps again. If after 3-4 tries your engine wont run you will have to remove the carb and clean the jets manually. The reason your engine runs for a short time is because it is burning the fuel that you put in there by priming it. After that the fuel comes through the jets in the carb and if these jets are clogged the engine will die.
