SOURCE: how do i replace a drive belt on a troy bilt self propelled lawn

You turn the mower over, remove the blade with a 9/16 or 5/8 socket. There is a bolt holding shroud on, 3/8 or 7/16, there are two screws by the rear wheels, 7/16 that need to be removed. Once the shroud is removed, belt can be removed and new one put on.

SOURCE: Honda lawn mower, self propelled mechanism not working

check the mechanism first before changing the gearbox its possible that the cable might jump out from the pulley or the cable is worn out or its possible that the gear on the tire is worn out to if not then that would be the time for you to change the gear box it would be hard to change it if you don't have the right tools to work on it if you know how everything work its not that hard to replace it just make sure were everything goes memorize the parts before disassembling cause that would be you guide to reassemble it...goodluck

SOURCE: honda lawn mower wheel drive works, but needs adjustment, how?

Take the covers off the drive, there should be a hollow bolt the cable comes thru, it should have 2 adjustment nuts This lengthens or shorts the cable. There also may be a adjustment on the handle.

SOURCE: how to replace belt on self propelled lawn mower

There is probably a cover on the front part of the mower that goes to the front wheels. remove the cover and you should have access to the belt. Carefully remove the belt (don't pinch your fingers) push it back towards the motor. You might have to remove the blade. Place new belt in the pulley on the engine shaft then to the pulley up front. Carefully start the belt on the front pulley and slowly turn it onto the pulley.

I have a self propelled lawn mower and the the belt that propells the wheels is loose, do I need to replace it or is there a way to tighten the tension.

Cathy, there is a way to adjust belt tension on some models whether it is by the cable or a slotted bracket where the idler wheel is mounted, depends on make and model. If you have your manual check in it for belt adjustment. Could be stretched belt, stretched cable, worn/oil on pulley, seized tensioner, stretched/broken spring on tensioner, etc.

How do you tighten or loosen a belt on lawn boy self propel mower? Where is the tension pulley bolt located to tighten?

most self propelled mowers engage an arm to put the gearbox into drive so it may not be a case of loosening the drive belt

Self propelled lawn mower makes whinning noise

disconnect the spark plug turn the mower on its side and inspect the drive belt on the pulley above the blade (on the crankshaft) it may have a shroud over it. Also there is a small gear case that maybe dry that the belt drives, that goes to the wheels, Also try lifting the drive wheels up off the ground and engage them and see if it still does it. if it stops once lifted it might be the bushings on the axle its self.

Lawnboy 10665 won't self-propel and impossible to push

If you have the smell of rubber burning the belt isn't gripping. Make sure that there isn't anything stopping the wheels turning like old grass or even a piece of twig. If their clear try adjusting the tension on the drive pully.

I have a Lawn boy 10696 mower that seems to need a new self propel belt. Is this something i should bring in for repair or something the average homeowner can replace?

This machine is kinda tricky. Took me a bit to figure it out, so you may want to take it to the shop where they can do it in a jiffy. If you take that back top cover off, you can get at the belt from there. I can't remember, but I think then you have to go underneath AFTER REMOVING THE SPARK PLUG WIRE!!! and remove the blade to get the other end off. The proper replacement of the belt should be outlined in detail in your owner's manual. I work on so many different machines that I cannot remember the exact way that I did it the last time, but I know it was a pain in the A$$. Hope this helps.

My lawn mower cranks fine and runs fine, however, the wheels will not self-propel, anymore. I'm not sure how old the mower is, as I purchased it used, but it worked properly for the first four or five...

First of all clean all the gunk from all the drive wheel areas and where the drive belt operates as well as the pulleys Check the belt as it could be broken or stretched. Maybe should replace the belt and lubricate all the working areas as well as wheels. Check the shear pin as well.

Belt jump off the drive pulley

I don't have this kind of mower. But I was faced with the same problem recently. I got my belt back on by taking a large wrench and affixing it to the bolt head holding the pulley which you want to slip the belt on. Hold the belt firmly against the pulley and turn the wrench and the belt in the grove will walk around the pulley until it slips in place.
