Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

We have a 2TB big disk LaCie hard disk. It's connected to a Mac airport router through which users access to store documents and images. All of a sudden it quit connecting and won't show up as connected. We tired connecting it directly to an iMac desktop and it won't mount. We changed its power source with one from an identical hard disk which works and it still won't work. Can you help?

The hard drive itself may have failed. Try it in the other enclosure to see if it works, if it does you will be lucky and be able to back up the info. If not you will have lost your info.

in article < The LaCie 1TB Big Disk Extreme Hard Drive with Triple Interface available on the Apple Store looks interesting. The reviews of it and some of the other capacities in the range indicate it is quiet. Anyone used one from that range? Stream it how? I've just tried to watch a a DVD in DVD Player from a VIDEO_TS folder stored on the Mac Pro and shared over the wireless Airport Extreme network. It was very poor. Help is it possibol to upgrade lacie big disk extreme 500gb to 1tb or 2tb. thanks. FC

Maybe. If the current disk-drive has an IDE interface, then your 500GB disk-drive already is the largest IDE disk-drive ever produced. Or, if the current disk-drive has a SATA interface, then the sky (or the thickness of your wallet) is the limit.

I had 4 LaCie 2TB Big Disk Quadra, Item 301343U. They are connected to a Nitro 8-PORT FIREWIRE 800/1394B PROFESSIONAL (N8PFW8HR) hub. The hub is connected to a LaCie Firewire 800 PCI card. I am running...

Let's not take this as a solution so much as an intuition. I believe you may have run up against a limit of physical disk space that XP can administrate.

DO me a favor and don't give my rating a thrashing if I'm wrong.

Try changing the USB port to connect it. Also try substituting the cable used to connect the errant disk. It may be a cable issue or a USB port on your computer.

It does sound like there is a problem with the drive. I would recommend that you take the drive back to the store or contact LaCie's support about getting an RMA for the drive.

Ibook g3

First of all, you need an Airport card for the iBook G3, chech for example this link; http://popular.ebay.com/ns/Computers-Networking/Original-Airport-Card.html (you should buy one like this: 9deeeda.jpg

, there is a G4 card too, but your iBook doesn't support this one).
Next, install it;

Then, buy a wireless router that uses 802.11b/g or 802.11b. This is very important because your airport card doesn't support 802.11g, and install it, but don't protect your network with a WAP password, your iBook doesn't support this, but use WEP.
Then start your iBook, and click on the Airport icon in the right corner, select your network, type in the password and it will work!

Lacie Big Disk Quadra 3TB won't work with xp-32bit

One way around is to install Mac Drive on your system. First you format your hdd in HFS+ on a mac platform, with any size you want. Then, after you installed Mac drive on your PC, it will work.

LaCie 1 TB Hard drive won't boot

I lave lots and lots of experience with LaCie Drives (I have 6 of the 2TB models). Every, every, every time a drive fails or runs slowly, it is the power supply. I have now replaced 5. They run very hot (so does the drive), and fail pretty often. It looks like the voltage drops just a smidge, and access times seem to increase, i.e., the drive "runs slow". Then it won't boot at all, and the blue light keeps blinking. Fortunately LaCie has replacement power supplies in the store. Buy a couple extra. I am married to the LaCie drives now, or I would probably switch brands. I kind of guess that they know about this because I contacted the help desk, and he wasn't surprised. Maxtor has a nice drive, and the Calvary drive is $150 cheaper. A drive is a drive I guess. By the way, if anyone is listening, how about building a QUIET, COOL drive with and INTERNAL POWER SUPPLY? GOT IT? All the cords and power supply bricks make me crazy. It might be nice to see a stackable drive where the top of one drive mates to the bottom of another, carrying network info as well as power to the drive above. Hint, hint. We all are building systems with ungodly amounts of storage. Too bad the manufacturers aren't building drives with the durability we need.
