Open the choke; pour a teaspoon of mix into the throat; reinstall the air filter; turn it on; leave the choke open; attempt to start it; and reply with the results. Have you inspected the plug to see if it is wet (flooded)?

I have this saw and really like it. Does the the primer seem to work? Most problems on these saws can be traced back to cracked fuel lines. Either tank to primer, primer to carb, or carb return back to tank. I would recommend it the saw it more than 3 years old to replace all the fuel lines. Total cost about $5. Buy your fuel line at Ace Hardware.

Can you please tell me what the carb adjustments are for the Poulan 18in. wild thing chain saw?

"L", "H", and "T" adjustments are all explained on the link. It is a very good carburetor setting procedure.

Start with “L” & “H” needle valves 1.5 CCW from lightly seated, then adjust for performance as follows.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.
I am going to inject a little philosophy here. Undetected air leaks and defective fuel delivery systems account for most chainsaw failures. Constant adjustment of needle valves can easily camouflage more serious problems that result in burning up your saw. A sudden need for an adjustment may be indicative of a larger problem.

Bogs down?

Try turning the "H" needle CCW a little. Cleaning the muffler and spark arrestor is a good idea too (if it cannot exhale it cannot inhale).
I do not think you need this but something to save for later.

The chainsaw boggs down immediately when it contacts the wood. It runs somewhat choppy as well at idle. It is new to me and this is the first time I ran the saw. Is this a carb adjustment thing? plugged...

Clean the air filter. Remove, clean, and reinstall the muffler and spark arrestor.

If my new saw I would consider a Stihl mechanic tune up $40±. New plug, new fuel filter, pressure/vacuum tests and carburetor adjustment.

Remove, clean and reinstall the muffler and spark arrestor, if no better the "L" needle may need adjustment.

Mar 08, 2010 | Poulan Pro Chain Saw 46cc 20"

1 Answer

It starts and runs right for about five minutes, then it won't rev. to the highest rpm's. Will start after that but won't run fast enough to cut. It's a Poulan 3416----16" 34cc

Remove the muffler and clean out deposits from the spark arrestor screen. Make sure the intake air filter is clean. If these two items are good, then the 'H' carburetor adjustment may be too rich--turn clockwise somewhat until the engine runs at full speed, but 4-stroking slightly. The engine should smooth out and 2-stroke with even a light cutting load. Make sure the chain is being properly oiled while running. Hope this helps!

Poulan Pro 220 saw starts & runs fine when finger on throttle, will not stay at idle. Rplaced plug & same issues.

All you need to do is try to adjust the throttle idle speed or else a cheat would be to tighten the cable which means the cable will be pulling very slightly the throttle which means it will remain running when u release throttle.

Saw does not idle and is hard to start. It is a P3314 Poulan

You have gum in your carbeurator.
You can try a carb. cleaner that you add to the gas. I likve one called seafoam. You add one ounce per gallon of fuel.

Also, you must have a good clean spark plug, and a clean air filter. The spark, the fuel, and the air all contribute to an easy start and a good idle. If you havn't changed the spark plug lately do so, same with the air filter.
