Question about Acer Aspire 9810 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop has no image. lights display power bus other than the cpu/gpu fan running there is no sign of life. I suspect the gpu, mem or processor but today i replaced the motherboard with a suspect replacement (untested) so it could have the same fault. I have no spare cpu or mem to narrow it down because of the type of sockets. GPU is nvidia 7600 mobile. This is not a backlight problem. There is no image at all even through bios post.

A fan has failed, the unit is clogged with dust or a task is running the CPU/GPU at stressful levels.

If you are not confident opening and cleaning out a laptop yourself have a repair technician do it.

If the fan has failed it needs repair.

Run task manager (taskmanger.exe) to check to see if a hung process in a loop is causing the CPU/GPU to run at 100% all the time.

Hp pavilion modelp6510f press power switch on top of pc does not light computer fans blow but compute does not turn on

ok th p6000. complete range when they were made had to be recalled as they put the copper expansion pipes ran across the gpu & cpu hence a massive overheat problem. they put copper shims over the cpu & gpu but this worked for a short time but it was inevitable and both units ended up being cooked i had this problem with mine. so if you have tried external monitor with no images it would sound or more likely to be the gpu cooked sorry for the bad news.

Does not switch on but power on light is on

I would remove the battery, power supply, RAM and hard drive. Plug the power supply in and see what happens when the power button is pressed. If nothing, there is a motherboard issue, possibly a GPU error. If it comes to life, re assemble bit by bit until the culprit is found.

My acer aspire will not power on. what do I do?

Just check devices one by one ..the only thing that can affect the boot is the power the ram memory and teh board itself ..or the cpu ..Any of these failing ...causes the boot fail ..so ..check the ones you can ..
first be sure the battery is charged and it makes contact and lights the led ..if is so ..you can run it out of quest ..after that ..check the ram memory ..remove and place again ..and see if it makes some signs of life ..and so on
as good method to check all ..is to remove and check on another laptop that supports them ..(same ddr and speed ..)
if it turns out they are OK ..than it is either the cpu ..or the board itself ..for any other it would either make noise when boot to windows but no image ..and in this case is the video or the display ..or just display at least to bios or the logo ..
My guess cause it was that sudden is either the cpu ..or the power contacts ..probably heat up and some contact is loose..or the fan stopped and caused the cpu to fail

My Acer Aspire 5535 after pressing the power button it goes green and the fans whir a little but nothing else happen ony black screen with out any message.

Hi,

Your 5535 ATI GPU got a problem cause by overheat. You need to reflow the ATI GPU by hot air gun around 30 second. Your laptop display will be fix back. Make sure you clean all dusk inside your laptop and apply new heatsink compound to GPU and CPU ( Processor )

Thanks

Toshiba satellite m305d power light on fan runs for 2 seconds shuts off no screen

Either your motherboard, CPU, or GPU have fried. You can try to re-seat your ram but if there is no beep/beeps and nothing but a power light, and fan running for a couple seconds those are the only options. If your handy you might get lucky and get it to work for a little (as long as you have thermal paste) Remove heatsink, & fan, then the CPU blow out the connections with compressed air (to go the extra mile electronic cleaner) then let dry for a few hours reassemble, hoping for the best the whole time mind you.

I have compaq presario cq45. When I start laptop First start fan for 5 Second then blink caps lock and num lock LED .and display not visible.I chack RAM that is proper ..

If the fan stops after 5 seconds and you can't get a display your motherboard, GPU, or CPU are shot. Remove the ram, and power it on if you hear no system beeps your, GPU, or motherboard are shot. Probably cheaper to replace laptop then repair, just remove your HDD, so you or someone else can retrieve your information for you.

Hi I could use some advice, I have an Acer Aspire 6935g which died while i was out of the house for about 10 mins, came back and it had turned itself off with no signs of power at all, not even the usual...

Hello Kelpi,

Hmmmm. So with the video card installed, no life, no joy. With the video card out, signs of power, but no joy. Since this just sort of 'happened' out of the blue, it sounds more like the card than the mobo. First, inspect the video card for signs of scorching (look at the chips on it) and any 'brown' areas on the card which may have happened as a result of excesive heat. Also, try cleaning the contacts on the card (and the mobo socket) with a pink pencil eraser to remove oxidation - dont rub so hard as to remove the gold plating on the contacts if present.

If there is a vga port on the laptop which is not attached to the video card, try booting it up with an external monitor connected. I haven't seen one of those laptops for a couple of years, but some research showed that some of them have an onboard intel gpu and pci express support for the discreet video card. You may be able to get video with an external monitor, go to the bios, and change the primary graphics to onboard.

Here's another option: Take it to an authorized Acer repair shop. They can order a video card from Acer and if it doesn't fix the issue, they can return the part to Acer within 15 days (that's the return policy in Canada) You may have to pay shipping and a restocking fee, but this is still an option. Also, Acer is very reasonable with their repair rates. You may be able to send it to them directly and have it repaired for a flat rate. Acer is also very reasonable with their parts pricing, so if the video card option doesn't fix it, you can likely get a new mainboard for $100-150.

Hope this helps! Let me know how you make out.

Regards,

Joe

When i cut the laptop on everything light up except screen

The problem is a damage to the MB by excessive heat produced by Nvidia GPU. The only way to fix this permanently is to take out the MB and reflow the GPU with heat. You can find a video on youtube how to do it. You must take out the piece of gel between GPU and cooling unit and replace it with copper bar or penny made prior 1983 - still made out of copper. Also clean the fan. Use heat transfer paste like arctic cool - not a glue, on both sides of the penny. Install win7. Win7 does not use the coprocessor and will help to ran the notebook cooler. Install speedFan 4.40 - free utility to see what the temp is of your GPU and CPU. If you did good job it will stay around 55C. If your HP notebook is still running check the temp. If the GPU is running 80C or more it will melt the connections on the MB and quit working sooner or later.

Toshiba L305-S5944 T 3400 Want to upgrade ???processor the bus speed is F/S bus speed is 667 can I break this Limit?? with a processor??? are is that it fast as it will go??? what does efect the board...

Hi,

With laptops you are severely limited with what you can do regarding the processor. It's highly unlikely that you will break the 667 front side bus barrier at all. A laptop BIOS just doesn't support CPU overclocking and neither does a laptop motherboard.
The only thing you could do is upgrade the processor for a better one like a C2D T8100 for example but the bus speed on that is only 800 MHz so there are limitations.

A desktop motherboard is a different kettle of fish as some motherboards are designed with CPU overclocking in mind and are cheaper to purchase.

If you wanting to upgrade the processor for gaming purposes then i wouldn't bother as the GPU (graphics processing unit) in the L305 is not that good at all.

I hope i have answered your questions for you.

Regards.
