Question about Sun Fire V240 Server

System shows it is using scsicontroller 1 not

Sun V240 system shows it is using scsi controller 1 not controller 0 for HD c0t0d0 on Sun V240. Is it possible to change this via software nvram? I think physical switching of the drives around may cause an issue due to mount points. There are 2 drives installed in the computer c0t0d0 and c0t1d0 and they are mixed matched as reported from the vfstab file on the system.

Yellow light on front and back panel with no display on monitor

Have you connected to the ALOM to see what is going on during boot? The yellow light is just an indication of a problem, but will not give the much information by itself. This ALOM will provide info before the monitor is initialized. Docs about the ALOM are here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19088-01/v240.srvr/819-4208-10/alom.html
and here:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19102-01/n440.srvr/819-2445-11/intro.html#70482

You will need to connect to the serial port (RJ-45 connector using an crossover cable to the ALOM) from a laptop/PC/terminal and use some type of terminal software to connect over the Serial port of the laptop/system to the ALOM serial port. You may need to try different rates, but settings should be defaulted at 9600 Baud, 8bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.
More info here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19102-01/n440.srvr/819-2445-11/configure.html#17306

A successful connection over this will show readable text a few seconds/minutes after powering up the system.

This error message could be caused by a number of things. Generally it's because the program being downloaded is corrupt or didn't download completely. Have you tried a different browser to do the downloads? If it's a very large download you may encounter problems with losing packets. A download manager may help.
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/231-free-download-manager.html

Also, you may want to try doing a restore to system restore point to a date when you weren't having this issue. System Checkpoint dates (in bold) are usually very safe points to restore to. I would also recommend a virus scan and if you don't have this utility and are able to download and install it (yes I know that's your current problem, but you can download it to a flashdrive from a friend's comp and install it), I'd get Glarysoft Utilities and run the one-click maintenance which will fix any registry errors. It's free and is a great way to keep your machine running well.

If any of this helps correct your problem I would appreciate a rating. People here seem to take the help and don't show any appreciation by taking the time to rate the help.

Meaning of Symbols on Hd rack?

If the server is configured with split SCSI channels these indicate which bays are part of each of the two channels. The common use for this would be to use the split with two drives for a RAID 1 system drive and the remaining four for RAID 5 data or in some cases two sets of RAID 1.

Not getting a drive letter from Compaq SCSI RAID setup

Did you see any new drives in the disk managemen screen? To get to the disk management, hold window key down and hit 'R', then type diskmgmt.msc and hit enter.

If you do see the drive in the lower half of the screen, you need to initialize the drive either as dynamic disk or basic disk. Then you need to add a new partition and format it.

Good luck.

How do I make IBM 346 server detect a scsi disk

Make sure it is connected properly and that it is displayed either in the motherboard's setup screen or in your SCSI controller setup screen.

Both of these locations can only be accessed during the computers POST which is before the operating system starts.

Once the hardware is recognized by disk controller your operating system will "see" the disk and allow you to manage it.

I hope this helps.

Incorrect Jumper setting (SCSI ID)
Each device on the card/controller cable must have unique ID and must be of the proper type for the card/controller...although some like 50-pin SCSI I and II Are interchangeable, larger, newer drives using Ultra, Ultra-Wide and Differential technologies are not.

Typically the controller is set at 7 or 15, so each attached device (CDROM, HDD, Scanner, Plotter, Tape, etc is allowed to use 0-6 or 0-14 depending on controller type.

Doublecheck that you are not trying to use SCSI-Fast, Wide or Ultra controller with the wrong type/technology drive or (gasp) Differential (used mostly for Tape, Robots, Jukeboxes and CD or DVD Arrays) The others won't work... Diff will smoke the drive.

Good Luck!

Raid 0 on Intellistation 6221?

That particular work station comes with both IDE and SCSI drive interface controllers. The IDE drive should be used for your OS. The SCSI drives for your data storage. Now, the issue is to get the SCSI to work in RAID_0 as I understand.

You iwll need a RAID controller such as Adaptec AHA-3940AU WD SCSI Host Controller, which may be found on eBay (used) for a very affordable price. The driver software may be downloaded directly from Adaptec, so I suggest you do that in the iterim peroid, and store drivers on a USB thumb drive.

Hope this helps you.

Hey there

The most common cause is that setup does not have the driver for a SCSI device or is detecting storage devices in the wrong order, such as that CD-ROM drive first.
Press F6 when setup first starts and provide a driver for the mass storage device that will hold the operating system files.

Check to make sure all adapters and controllers are working properly.
Check power to all devices. Reseat adapters and controllers.

For SCSI devices ensure:
1. The SCSI cabling is properly installed.
2. SCSI devices are terminated.
3. SCSI devices are correctly addressed. And
4. The BIOS correctly recognizes all SCSI adapters.
Also, be sure the SCSI boot drive is addressed as 0.

Check the manufacturer's recommedation for configuring SCSI adapter and Hard Disk Drives. Try replacing the adapter before replcing the drive(s).

For EIDE Drives:
1. Check the controller.
2. Ensure file I/O and disk access are set to standard. And
3. Ensure that the system drive is the first device recognized by the controller.

For IDE and ESDI drives:
1.Check the cabliing and controller.
2. Check the Drive setup in the BIOS for master/slave relationships. And
3. Ensure the drive is properly recognized in the BIOS.

Gimme acknowledge by rating me.

thanx
