Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Got a new Pioneer VSX-1020 receiver and can't get it to output anything (audio or video). Even when connecting the 'monitor' output to the TV, I can't see the GUI. I tried different inputs (CD, DVD, iPOD) and different inputs on my TV and nothing works. Any ideas?

    Thanks Lee.
Before I do that, any chance I'm missing something?
    Any check I should/could do?
When I'm doing the channel setup I can see that all speakers are connected but then that's the only time I hear anything. Even when using the tuner I can't hear anything.

If you just purchased the unit new and it's not outputting anything. I would suggest returning it immediately for a replacement. If not that then have it sent in for warranty service. If you have any other questions of need further information let me know.
Thanks,
Lee

Double check your connections make sure the speaker settings are correct. Just go through the manual's setup. It should be quite straight forward. But from what you have said I would probably return it. It really shouldn't be difficult to get the receiver to produce sound. refer to page 108/260 in the pdf for troubleshooting no sound then if that doesn't work return the unit.

How do I connect my pioneer vsx prologic receiver to my hdmi plasma tv?

If the tv has normal stereo outputs, you will use those. if it only has a digital output, your best option will be to buy a new receiver.

How do i conect my tv to this receiver

That would depend on the capabilities of the TV.

The VSX-D509 manual is avalailable for free at retrevo.com.
http://www.retrevo.com/s/Pioneer-VSX-D509S-Receivers-review-manual/id/385ci970/t/1-2/

The receiver only needs a simple composite monitor output using a standard RCA cable so you can use the TV to operate it through its menus.

My TV has many video inputs of the various technologies, so I connect each Hi-Def video source's video directly to the TV and run the audio from them to the appropriate inputs on the Receiver.

If you feel the need to have the TV's minimalist audio run into the receiver just run an RCA pair from its audio output to any available analog input, but the sound will be limited to analog stereo. In the TV's setup find a setting for the audio output and select whatever closely resembles a 'fixed' level so you can mute or turn its volume down without affecting the audio out to the receiver.

Is the unit still under warranty? Have you contacted Yamaha Support? They are usually useful and will guide you through diagnostics.

I have a motorolla DSR505 sattelite receiver that I want to connect to my Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K audio/video receiver. The sattelite receiver has a DVI output jack so I have a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it...

The DVI output usually transmits only video (I'm almost 90% sure about this). It would be better if you did not use the DVI to HDMI cable. Receivers and displays can be very picky when it comes to using HDMI. Your Motorola DSR505 has other output options on its rear. I would suggest using the Component out for video (the 3 outputs colored green, blue and red) and either an optical or coaxial for the audio. The Pioneer VSX 1019 AH-K has the required inputs. Of course, you would require new component and coaxial/optical cables to do the job.
Hope this helps. If you're still in a tangle, you can consult the Official Thread on the Pioneer VSX 1019 AH-K on avsforum. There are a lot of helpful people out there.

Get ''not supported ''message on vx-1018-ah

Verify this is a Pioneer VSX-1018AH.

The manual explains it all... The problem is probably an incompatible setting on your source.

Search for "not support" in the manual...

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Unassigned+Content/VSX-1018AH-K+OPERATING+INSTRUCTIONS

I think this may do it... From Page 86...

No picture or sound. • This receiver is HDCP-compatible. Check that the components you are connecting are also HDCPcompatible.
If they are not, please connect them using the component or composite video jacks.
• Depending on the connected source component, it’s possible that it will not work with this receiver
(even if it is HDCP-compatible). In this case, connect using the component or composite video jacks
between source and receiver.
• If the problem still persists when connecting your HDMI component directly to your monitor,
please consult the component or monitor manual or contact the manufacturer for support.
• If video images do not appear on your TV or flat panel TV, try adjusting the resolution, DeepColor
or other setting for your component.
If ‘NOT SUPPORT’ appears in the receiver’s display, try adjusting the resolution, DeepColor or
other setting for your component.
• While analog video signals are being output over HDMI, use a separate connection for audio
output.
• When this receiver reproduces MULTI CH IN audio sources with the HDMI setting set to
THROUGH, you cannot hear audio output from all channels. In this case, make a digital or analog
audio connection.
• To output signals in DeepColor, use an HDMI cable (high speed HDMI cable) to connect this
receiver to a component or TV with the DeepColor feature.

Check the HDMI Control (Page 65-66 of the manual). It only works with Pioneer Flat Panel TV's. Also check Page 83 for "No image is output..."

No image is output when an
input is selected.
• Check the video connections of the source component (see page 18).
For high-definition video (using component video connections), or when digital video conversion
is switched off (in Setting the Video options on page 72), you must connect your TV to this receiver
using the same type of video cable as you used to connect your video component.
• Make sure the input assignment is correct for components connected using component or HDMI
cables (see The Input Setup menu on page 67).
• Check the video output settings of the source component.
• Check that the video input you selected on your TV is correct.
Some components (such as video game units) have resolutions that may not be converted. If
adjusting this receiver’s Resolution setting (in Setting the Video options on page 72) and/or the
resolution settings on your component or display doesn’t work, try switching Digital Video
Conversion (in Setting the Video options on page 72) OFF

I'd like to know where the vcr cable & cable wire from wall

(I own 2 VSX-D903S Units.)

There are NO optical (Toslink) or coaxial connections for Satellite or Cable-TV on this Pioneer unit.

The coaxial connector on the receiver is for connection to an external antenna for FM Tuner (radio) reception only.

Your cable line from the wall would go to your Cable Box, or a "cable-ready" TV or VCR. You would then connect the composite (YLR) or S-video output A/V (S+LR) connection to the VCR 1 input on the back of the receiver. Connect your TV L/R audio and S-video or Composite video output to the TV in connection on the Receiver. (Connect the Composite TV-out connection to a composite video-in connection on the TV.)

NEW WITH LCD TV

This pioneer does not support HDMI, so for the best resolution you have to use video the component inputs and output, those are marked as Y (green), Pr (red) and Pb (Blue) and remember, this signals are only for video so you need to hook up the audio too.
