Electric mobility scooter says charge is full but won't run

My mom's scooter has no power. When the charger is plugged in an outlet, the light that says "run" on the charger lights up. When the charger is plugged into the outlet then into the scooter the "full" light is on indicating the scooter is fully charged, but the scooter has no power. The lights, horn, blinkers, and motor do not work. What could it be? The charging cord has three prongs where it connects to the scooter. On the inside of the scooter behind the charging outlet, only two wires come out of the outlet. The prong without a wire is the ground, right? Is it just a dead battery? thank you.

This sounds she has tripped her circuit breaker. It works just like the one on your house, when you ask too much of it it suddenly goes 'pop' and seems to be dead.

Looks like you have the same scooter as mine, it should be a little white button on the back of the base. If you follow this link, it will give you a pdf version of the older model pride victory manual, (Mine is a three, they are up to about 10!) See fig. 8 on page 20 and 'Circuit Breaker' on page 21. Also, Page 33 has the troubleshooting info. Hope this helps.

Hi. Most chargers should be connected to the scooter first before plugging into the wall socket. The charger senses the battery voltage to regulate itself. Your other answer suggested the circuit breaker, and this might be correct. Sone times the circuit breaker blowing can mean there is other faults such as a faulty motor. Many mobility scooters have plugs and sockets on the battery leads, and most are too light to carry the high currents. I have removed these from many machines and connected the leads straight to the batteries.

The third pin in the charger plug is to disable the controller in the scooter while the charger is connected.Good luck. Neil.

Check the freewheel lever. When it is in the neutral position, its like a car in neutral gear. The lights will go on but nothing will happen when you touch the accelerator. The freewheel lever is at the back of the scooter, near the wheels. I hope that is what the problem is as it is the easiest and fastest problem to fix.

How do I charge a moxie power scooter??

  • Turn the scooter's power switch to the OFF position.
  • Connect the charger's plug to the charging port on the scooter.
  • Plug the charger's power cable into a power outlet.
  • When the charger's LED red/orange light is on, the battery is charging. Optimal charging time is 6 to 8 hours, or up to 10 hours to achieve a complete charge. The scooter manual will have the exact charging
  • Times recommended for your scooter.
  • Stop charging when the LED light is completely green.
  • Disconnect charger from the scooter, then from the power outlet.
  • Run your scooter before riding it to verify the battery charge.

Trouble with new batteries losing charge. I also purchased a new charger. It will run for awhile a couple of weeks then it will just keep losing power and just stop.

Number 1, always charge after every use. You can check if the charger is charging quickly, by turning on the scooter and watching the gauge when you plug the charger in. The gauge should climb up if it does not move then charger is not working. Make sure the charger is plugged into an outlet that is not shut off with a light switch!

Scooter won't move

Things to check: Drive/Free wheeling switch, brake release lever (this activates an internal micro-switch that enable power to the drive system, battery box connectors (condition of contacts - corroded, missing, loose. etc.); main control cable (corrosion. lose or missing pins, etc). If all these are OK, could be controller or drive control potentiometers (speed, forward, backward) on the handle-bar (tiller).
Good luck!

The batteries need charging and when you plug in the charger and the power is on the lights wil flash indicating that the charger is plugged in. Now look at the rear of the chair near where the charger cord plugs into the chair and you should see a voltmeter. With the charger plugged in the voltmeter will indicate about 5-6 amps and after charging overnight the voltmeter should be reading 0 amps. If when you plug in the charger cord and the voltmeter indicates 0 amps then I would suspect that the charger is not working or that the fuse is blown in the charger circuit. The only way to see if the batteries charge would be to borrow or find an offboard charger that will plug into the charger port located under the front of the joystick and after charging for 10-12 hours see if the battery level lights show full charge Hope this helps

Hi do you need to turn on key to charge up battery on a wheeltech mobility scooter i just purchased with no manual thanks

No, you don't need to turn on the key to charge. Just plug in the charger and turn on the charger if there is an on/off switch on it. The charger indicator and the scooter meter will read full when the scooter is fully charged. Hope this helps.

Has the scooter been stored unused for a while? If so, the batteries may have gone solid from improper maintenance. There is a gel inside the batteries that needs to have current run through it at least once a week to keep them fluid. The charger is showing a green light because it senses the batteries are full, but instead of being full of power, they are full of crud and need to be replaced again. If the batteries have been properly charged but you still cannot get power, check all your connections to make sure they are tight and that your fuses are not blown.
Good luck!

Scooter is dead

Are you sure your charger is working? Is the free-wheel lever engaged? Also the charger has an inhibit line, it will not run when the charger is plugged in.

Not sure if this will help... however an altmeter will allow you to test along your electrics for any faults. You can check at the lights for example and throught the system.
