This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Then see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers. It has troubleshooting and testing procedures. AND, in particular, if this is a basic top load machine, specific instructions for how to remove the timer. (There are two types with different procedures.) I'd go through the testing procedures before assuming that the timer is bad though.

Washing machine stops when it is suppose to go into the spin cycle. It is full of water - moving the dial ahead manually does not help. Yesterday i could move the dial and it would work

I am not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. Therefore the washer ID doesn't mean
anything to me. I believe you have a bad lid switch. If you google clothes washer repair, you'll be amazed at the amount of help there. There are a couple of you tube videos there on direct drive washer repair. They are detailed step by step tutorials on opening the washer and determining the problem and fixing it.If this helps you, please rate my help on fixya.

We have an Kenmore 70 Series Heavy Duty Plus washing machine that is about 20 years old. The washer stops after the wash cycle and we have to manually move the dial one notch. The washer then completes the...

This is the deal, your washer is way to old to fix. The board is going bad and that is why it will not cycle properly. It would cost about $150.00 to fix and that does not even include labor. Consider craigslist as you can find some great deals from 40-60 for a newer one. Hope this helps.

Washing machine won't spin or aggatate

We had the same problem and it was really easy to fix. On the dial for the load size, turn it all the way to the right to "reset" and then check to see if it resolves the problem. It did with our washer same model and problem. Best wishes.... Doug

It was the door switch all along. I replaced it. However the new switch hummed louder than the original. The switch comes apart and after cleaning the contacts, voila, the old switch worked like new again. Very easy to change on this machine. I will be taking the new switch back. Nice to know some things are easy to fix. Just simple mechanical point type contacts. Not bad for a 7 year old machine.
