hi dear

The problem in OS X 10.4.6 - 8 where, despite selection the option "Require password to wake up this computer from sleep or screen saver", you are not prompted for a password when waking up can be solved by resetting you parameter RAM. This is done as follows: 1) reboot while holding down Command-Option-P-R
You will notice that as long as you hold down these 4 keys during reboot the computer will cycle though the initial steps of reboot, e.g. you hear the DC drive calibrate. One it cycled though the RAM is reset.
2) go to System Preferences and select the Security menu. You will notice that the "Require password..." option is not set. Set it and this should solve your problem.

oke

I have a macintosh and I need to find my computer pass word to be able to download updates to my system. Any help you could give me would be of great help. Thank you larfloy@aol.com

Your password is stored in the accounts preferences, in the system preferences under the Apple. It is usually the same password used when you log in at start up. If you didn't leave yourself a hint for the password, you can create another user account and give it a simple password and check the box to allow administration. You can also reset your user account password by starting from the OS cd/dvd.
