If your card is full, you need to download the pics to your computer. The easiest way is to use a card reader. After they are downloaded, put the card back in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the card.

Says FuLL won't take pictures

FULL indicates that your SD card is full and either must be cleared by formatting the card which will rase all the pictures or the pictures need to be downloaded to your computer and then erased from the card. You can also install a new card if you want to continue shooting and still save the pictures on the full card.

I was taking pictures with my digital camera and all of a sudden the lcd screen said memory card not readable, need to format card. i selected cancel. the card is full of pictures from a recent vacation. ...

1. Take out card from the Camera

2. Connect it to PC via external Card reader or built in reader in most laptops

3. Copy all the content.

The card problem may resolve by taking it out again and reinserting it in the camera. This is a very common and known problem.

If the card is also unreadable on the computer then you may have to format the card and retrieve the images easily via Softwares like Recuva or Recover My Files

Let me know if this helps :)

Could you please tell me the type of camera (model) and the type of memory and the computer that you are running? You might need to purchase a memory card reader and plug it into your computer and then eject the memory card from the camera and insert it into the memory card reader. Some computers come with a memory card reader in them. I would try that first.
If you filled the memory card past its capacity, you may have compromised the photos that are on it.

Memory card

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
