Question about Dell Dimension 3000 PC Desktop

I can't change boot order Dell Dimension 3000

I've tried F2 and F12 to change the boot order to reinstall XP. All I get is a black screen. Neither work. Someone had installed Vista on a friends system and they want it gone, understandably. I just need to be able to change the boot sequence to CD first. Thanks.

Shoot! This didn't work either. Everytime I hit the Esc key, it looks like it may change to the post or bios but loops back to the Dell screen. I've evn tried popping the battery to reset everything and no dice. I just need to change the boot order. Any help would be appreciated. The pc is a Dimension 3000.

Dell 8400 Boots to Black Error Screen in XP States to reinstall System 32

This might be caused by hard-drive failure. You should run hard drive test from BIOS to make sure hard drive is ok. You can access BIOS by pressing F2 during start up, from there start hard disk self test and wait for it to complete.

If hard drive is ok after test, insert in your original Windows installation media and reinstall OS.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

Carresearch, I just put the cd in and restarted the computer but the reinstallation didn't start. How do I reboot the cd first?

OK, Here's what you need to do. Shut down the computer. When you restart it, as it boots, continue to press and release the F2 key as the computer starts up. When it does, you will get a BIOS setup screen. From there, there will be an option to change boot sequence. Make CD drive first and then C: drive. Save your changes and then reboot. This time, the computer should load your reinstall disk. Let me know how it goes.

Having a problem with dimension 3000 destop. I turn on the computer and it will proceed to the XP loading screen then the picture will go black and won't return. Using AOC 23inch monitor.

A critical file needed for the launch of XP is missing. To see it can be recovered try to boot in Safe Mode. If you can the reinstall all the drivers and check every program for errors - launch them and see how they behave. If you can't boot in Safe Mode the the only thing left is to reinstall.

Dell Dimension 3000 Video problem

There may be a problem with your windows installation. Search Google for Hirens boot CD, it is a free download and should contain a live XP installation. When you turn on the computer tap the appropriate button to reach the boot menu, then insert the CD and select your CD drive. Once booted it should display a live XP.
Alternatively you may have your monitor set to an incompatible resolution. If tapping F8 won't display the advanced boot menu then try finding an auto setup on your monitor or change the resolution using the monitors controls. If the advanced boot menu does display then select low resolution mode.
Hope this helps,

Dell Dimension 4600 stalls during boot

Turn the computer's power on.
Immediately put the original Windows XP CD into the drive.
Tell the computer to boot from the CD (not from the hard-drive).
Does it start to boot from the CD?
Do you get as far as the "repair/install" boot-screen?
If so, your basic hardware is OK, and turn your computer off,
rather than choosing "repair" or "install".
Then, it's probably either the hard-drive that is failing,
or the installed copy of Windows XP is fuddle-duddle-ucked up, so that it cannot finish the "Windows startup" processing.

Reinstallation CD will not run

When trying to boot from a CD on a Dell system you should put the CD in the CD-ROM tray and reboot the computer. When the initial Dell splash screen appears, you should press F12 (not F2 for BIOS) for a boot menu. In that menu you want to choose the CD-ROM drive. If you have made changes in BIOS you may want to undo them and try this way instead.
