Question about Electronics - Others
I have a new 2g etec mp3 player. it worked fine with vista before and then now i plug it in and its an unknown device. it says the drivers are not there. so i try to update them and it says they are fine. i cant get the computer to recognize it anymore and i cant load anything onto it. i tried to find the manufacturers website but i cant find a public one. im frustrated to no end.
I have an etec 2.0 mini mp3 player m211, and recently I have experienced the same issues with windows media not being able to recognize the device. After trying many options, I discovered I could simply connect the device to another computer, and instead on synching song tracks as you would normally do, i simply went to the start menu, my computer, and located the E drive (removable usb drive), and drag /dropped the tracks stored in "my music" directly onto the E drive. After locating the E drive, you can do this by going to "my music", right click on the song track, click send to, select E drive, and its done! At least thats what worked for me as far as downloading song tracks ( dont know if you can do this for uploading as well, havent tried it) .... However unfortunately, this may not be valid info for those using any version older than XP... Good luck!

This is probably a cheap cable. I have three ETec MP3 players that i purchased for my little kids. (No ipods for them :) ) and I found the same problem with each of them. When I use the USB cable for my HP 50G it works. I have not traced the leads to see if the pin outs are the same (I would think that with 4 pins, they should be the same or it may be the quality of the cable. The thinner eTEC cable may be to thin to carry sufficient current to the device. My 50G cable is noticeably thicker.

Un-install the drivers and then clean up the registery with something like regdoctor or something to to liking and then re-install the drivers again.. that should help.
