This is a known issue. Call xerox and they will send you a replacement no charge, regardless of how old it is.

My colour text comes out with a shadow (in a different colour) like something is out of line. Black text prints crisp and clean.

yes, it is something of line. Color text is printed by three cartridges overlapping on the page. Most printer have a setting called Calibrate. You can sometimes do it in Windows, too.
Start button--> Control panel-->devices and printers--> (right click the name of the printer--> properties--> the last tab often is calibrate.

Why is the colour in my photographs not printing as they are in my laptop I have added new inks and cleaned the printing heads

Anonymous, there's a whole science of "color management" that you've invoked. First, what you're seeing is truly caused by lack of "calibration" in any stage of your workflow.
Your camera takes pictures, and whatever colors it sees are what it sees.
Your monitor shows you colors, but there's no standard calibration involved.
Your printer prints colors, but it too isn't calibrated to any standard.\

Assume for a minute that your monitor is set up to be a little too dark. You edit the pictures, and lighten them up so they look ok on screen. Now, when you print the picture, it's too light.

I've had similar issues, and have ended up purchasing a monitor calibration tool (Color Munki Smile) to calibrate my monitor, software "Profile Prism" to calibrate my printer, and now the prints I get look almost exactly like what I see on screen...

Problem with the HP LaserJet 4730mfp All-In-One Printer Unable to use ADF. Red light under start button.

Do the calibration for the scanner.

1. Place letter- or A4-size paper in tray 1, and adjust the side guides.
2. On the control-panel Home screen, scroll to and touch Administration.
3. Touch Troubleshooting.
4. Touch Calibrate Scanner.
5. Touch Calibrate to print the first pass of the calibration target(Print out).
6. Place the first pass of the calibration target face-down in tray 1 so that the arrows are facing into the MFP.
7. Touch Start to print the second pass.
8. Place the calibration target face-up into the ADF, and adjust the side guides.
9. After the calibration target has passed through the ADF once, reposition it face down in the ADF and touch Start.
10. Place the calibration target face-down on the scanner glass, touch Start, and scan the page.
After this pass, the calibration is complete.
Calibration will fails if print quality is not good...ensure that print quality must be in order..
Once calibration successfully done, restart printer several times & verify start button light, if its green every time 'u' re success. if not cleaning required for CCD which is major work & not suggestable..

Yellow cast when printing from canon mx850 - I see this problem has been described before, where do I find the answer?

The way inkjet printers work is they mix the limited amounts of colours available from the cartridges, by printing in layers, to get the desired colour. A lot of the time when it appears off colour its because one of the other colours isn't printing properly to show create the correct 'mix'.
This can either be because the colour is low, or because there is a blockage somewhere. I would suggest removing the cartridges & reinserting them, then performing maintenance which i believe can be done on the printer itself by pressing the menu button, finding 'maintenance/settings' pressing OK, then going to 'maintenance', followed by doing a 'cleaning procedure'.
More info here: http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/InkJet/PIXMA_MX_series/MX850.aspx?faqtcmuri=tcm:14-605698&page=1&type=faq
If this doesnt help, try the same thing but choosing deep cleaning.
Hope this helps.

I am getting unwanted black stripes when i do colour-printing. on my old pc i used to be able to clean/test the printing head but i dont have that facility now & can't see it on the net. any tips...

First run a cleaning cycle and test print. You can get this from Control Panel - Printers - Select Printer name and right click - select Properties and then Maintenance.

Then

1. Select Normal or Best, rather than Draft, in the Paper Type/Quality option in the Page Setup Screen.
2. Align the print cartridges. Select the Calibrate panel on the HP deskjet utility screen, then click the Align button.
3. Decrease ink density or drying time.
a. Click File > Print > Paper Type/Quality.
b. Click the Ink tab.
c. Use the sliders to adjust ink density and ink dry time.

Press and hold down the "MAIN" button for 10 seconds or until a menu screen comes up. Here you will find your basic preferences for your handheld - lights, tilt, brightness, calibration, etc.

Printing is a pinkish colour

Stanlyn2,

The maintenance for your printer is in the preferences for your printer.
From your desk top, Go to start. Open the control panel, find the printer icon. find your printer and right click the mouse over the icon. scroll down to properties. on the first tab you wil see at the bottom preferences and test page. press the preferences and open. on the last tab you wil see "maintenance". The cleaning facilities available to you as a user are on this page. be sure to print a "Nozzle check" prior to cleaning.
Do a light clean first and re print the nozzle check, if there is still missing lines, do a deep clean. If this failes you may need your print head replaced. This can be an expencive excercise, but well worth it.

Touch screen problem

I have seen a similar thing on a 680, and was only fixed by changing the screen. You could try cleaning the touchscreen film with an Isopropyl alcolhol wipe, but I think it's the screen gone bad.
