It may mean several things but the common ones are:

1.- Your hard drive is not beeing recognized by the motherboard
2.- Your hard drive might be damaged
3.- You need to enter the mother board configuration (usuallly by presing F2 on keyboard depends on the brand and model) by the moment of booting the pc and selecting boot options or device priority and selecting your hard drive as the first or default boot unit.
4.- You may need special drivers for your hard drive that may come with a floppy with your hard drive or you download from internet and load them of a USB drive (google for it)
5.- you may have a damaged system cd on your cd room.
6.- You may have some other boot device like a USB or Ethernet boot.

In any cases do only as I told DO NOT I repeat DO NOT touch any other thing than I say or you may crash down your pc.

Good luck

My computer says reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

Hello
This means that your hard drive is not detected by your computer.Unplug your computer then open the cover then check if the connector of the hard disk are properly connected and the power supply on the hard disk are also properly connected. And try to feel if your hard is vibrating when you powered it on. Because if the hard disk does not vibrating it means that your hard disk have no power or not properly connected to the connectors or damage. Sometimes i experienced this problem thats all i done then it works.

Reboot and selected proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

Hi,

Can you be more specific on your problem? Where do you see this error? How did it come about?

Just from the error your provided, this usually is seen on a computer when you have no operating system installed. If you are trying to install an operating system on your computer, you will normally do this through a CD/DVD. Your computer will need to boot up from the CD, DVD, USB or etc, whichever you are using.

To get it to do this, reboot your computer and as the computer is booting up you will see some options. We want the option that says "boot options", "settings", or "bios". Something similar to this. You will have to be quick as these options usually appear only for seconds.

If you go into your computer BIOS, you can select which device your computer will choose first to try and load an operating system. Make sure you select the right device(usb/dvd/cd etc).

If you are not trying to install an operating system, or have any questions please comment back.

Regards,

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key what does this mean

This sounds like the starting screen when you re install an operating system on your computer. I would first try to exit out with the ESC key, Exit with out saving. If that doesn't work correctly, try unplugging the Pc and restarting. Hope this helps!

Best Wishes and Good Luck!

Reboot and select proper boot device. what does it mean?

Boot device per see means that it is the device where you want your computer to start it may in the form of Optical drive (CD, DVD), Harddrive, USB drive (thumb drive), Floppy drive (for old computers). When get this error it also means that there are devices you have that are bootable it may be in a form of an Operating System Disk or just a simple bootable floppy drive. But the usual bootable device once you had the operating system installed already will be the Harddrive.

I purchased a used vaio vgc-rb43. Upon turning on a message appears stating "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" What can I do from here?

It probably is a "dead" disk-drive inside the computer.
So, the computer would try to boot from the 3.5-inch diskette drive, or the CD/DVD drive,
if there was "bootable" media inside the device.

So, you need to take the computer to a computer-store, to remove the "dead" disk-drive,
and for them to sell you a "new" and "compatible" disk-drive.

Then, you must re-install Windows (did the seller include a set of "System Restore") CD/DVD disks? Or, can you telephone Sony, and order a replacement set of those disks?

its basically telling you that your master hard drive with O/S installation cannot be found in the booting system...Check if your master HD is not corrupted and see if your O/S still exist or maybe wiped out..

System will not boot after installing lite on dvd burner

If you have an external drive connected to your computer, check in CMOS or BIOS settings. Your hard drive should always be at the first list of bootable devices.

If you still receive the same boot up problem, try to boot with your Windows installation CD. Go to Recovery Console and in the command prompt, type:

fixboot (then press enter)
fixmbr (then press enter)
bootcfg /rebuild (then press enter)

Reboot and select proper boot device

Hi, ull need to check the boot device priority in ur BIOS which is accessable usualy by pressing the delete key at the start of the boot process. If everthing is correct there and yet it doesnt boot from ur hard disk, try changing it to boot from cd and check if it boots. If it does then i think either your hard disk is corrupted or your OS.
