Could you please go into more detail? I'd like to try and figure out why it is asking you to re-format your drive and then maybe I can try to get your data back.

Have you formatted this hard drive?
I hope you've not formatted it yet, since the formatting process always makes things worse.
Here are some ways for you to save back your inner data and this drive:
1). Do not format this drive till you've saved all your stored data back.
2). Do not add any new file on this drive in case that anything new would rewrite your original data.
3). Do not randomly select a data recovery program. In your case, an efficient data recovery program always means a lot. Therefore, you can try to apply an unformatted drive data recovery freeware to get back your player data successfully:
4). Do not save the restored data on the same drive in case of data recovery failure.
5). Do not forget to format this drive after the data recovery process so that you can check whether this "not formatted error" problem could be resolved.
Note: Never try to save everything important on only one hard drive next time.

How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software:

Can i transfer information to a mac

If the external hard drive has been formatted on a PC in NTFS file format then the MAC cannot read data off this hard drive.
The FIX..
Connect the USB external hard drive to a Windows computer and copy your data off this hard drive to the computer.
Then format the external hard drive in FAT32 file format. (the MAC can read and write to data to and from a Windows PC)
Now copy the your data from the computer back onto the external hard drive.
Now you can connect the external hard drive to the MAC and download your data to the MAC.

External keeps telling me not responding

Assuming your talking about an "external" storage device, such as a hard-drive over a USB connection... If the device isn't responding, and ASSUMING it doesn't need external power, and "should" operate over USB (most do)... then it's damaged. If it needed to be formatted, would get a different message. If it's locking up the computer, and not's simply bad and needs to be returned. Sorry :-(

It does not contain a recognized file system

this is usually caused because the system did not originally format the drive. It seems to be a common problem with external drives that are moved from computer to computer.I had a similar problem with one of my sons external hard drives, yet I was able to copy four or 5 GB of data to it, with no problems.I have an external hard drive myself and so far I have not had this problem, as I use it on both my workstation laptop. This might be something worthwhile to research.Hope this helpsregards

Your WD HDD have been attacted by viruses for your computer or outside computer where you used it last. Make sure that you have an up to date antivirus software, scan your computer or the external hard drive, explore your computer, go to tools - folder options under view files & folders select show hidden files and folders apply and ok it.

You can retrieve all your files from the external hard drive with data recovery program.I have succeed with Tenorshare data recovery. You can download a trial version of it and scan your hard drive for free to check out whether your files can be recovered.
After you recover your files, you can format it to check out whether it can be fixed.

How to avoid formatting drive

What did you format to,fat,fat32,NTFS,

I am not sure if your saying you had it on a desktop pc and now you plugged it into a laptop, or its always been on the same computer
and it just wants to format.

Either way, a computer should not want to format, usually you have to tell it to format, and the only reason to format a hard drive whether internal
or external ,is to change the file system from one to another,

example; FAT to NTFS , or your going to install a operating system to the hard drive.

Its sounds like you had it in a computer whether the same one or a different one, and you did not use the safely remove hardware, or you unplugged it while it was writing data back and forth.

Turn both off, the computer and external hard drive, plug the hard drive
into a different USB port, or firewire, how ever it connects.

Now turn on the external hard drive, wait a few minutes, now start the computer, once in windows if you see this I want to format you hard drive, tell it no, go to control panel and open devise MGR, and look for a yellow shield, under Universal serial bus controllers , the one that has a yellow mark, right click on it and choose properties, read what it says
in the open box, if it says disabled, enable it, if it says no driver,
click on driver tab, and click update driver.

Formatting My book after information is already on the drive.

Suggest taking drive to a computer repair expert (taking another drive to save the files to) and see if they can recover the data.  In future suggest never relying on any one drive, external or internal (or even DVD, tape drive etc etc).
