Question about Toshiba SDV395 DVD Player/VCR
I replaced an old dvd/vcr that children had destroyed. The new Dvd player works fine through tv but am not able to play vcr and the blue dvd menu is displayed. I tried a different toshiba unit and got the same results.
For this unit the component output (green, blue, and red cables) only work for the DVD player portion of it. You will need to connect either the av input on the back or the front with composite (yellow, red, and white cables) to your television in addition to the component cables I assume you have connected already. Once you have done so you will need to switch this unit over to the right av output in order to access the vcr and also switch your television over to the right av input in order to pick up the signal from the vcr.
