Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

No power to control board

Power source is good to control board however, it remains blacked out.  no led light, nothing. Light comes on at the door when opened.  wondering if that may be my only problem, wife stated that she smelled an burning odor when doing a load, before it died(when it died).

Yes, i'm afraid you have a burnt resistor on the control board, ( you can't just replace the resistor) you must replace the board. sorry not cheap.

My handle is broke, but closes just fine. I can't select a type of wash. It's stuck where its at. It says hold button for 3 seconds to unlock but still nothing. Whats the issue?

Hello. From what you describe, you have multiple issues at work here. I need the model number of the washer to help you most accurately for exploded diagrams, diagnostic routines, and part numbers. If the door lock mechanism is still working, then the only part that needs replacing is the plastic handle--there is an internal switch that MUST close when the door is shut thereby telling the main control board it's okay to start the cycle. If that switch isn't closed, you can choose options as much as you want but the washer will NEVER start. It's an important safety feature. Next, the control lock light is lit--that tells you that nothing will work on the panel until the lock is disabled. You must press and hold the button until the light goes out--USUALLY 3-4 seconds more or less. If the light remains lit no matter what you do, then there is an issue with the main control board. Have you had a power outage recently?(3-4 weeks prior or anytime in-between) They are NOTORIOUS for damaging the digital boards in modern appliances. And, it could have been a "brown out" where the power just blinks that does it. Also, the button control panel might be defective--the soft-touch buttons can become shorted internally--the computer won't let anything happen because it thinks you're pressing a button and haven't let it go yet.

This machine was spinning with an uneven load and stopped working so I emptied the machine and took it apart. I found the shock absorber on the tub needed to be put back together so I fixed that problem...

The error E68 means the ccu has sensed a stuck button on the console. MANY times this is a false error and means that either the ccu or interface must be replaced, but SOMETIMES, there really is a stuck button. TRy to run a diagnostic using the instructions I have provided below, let me know if you need any help with it.
1. Press and hold Select and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds to reset the control. The buzzer will sound
1 time and "rES" will be shown briefly in the display.
2. Immediately after, rotate cycle selector knob 5 turns counter-clockwise to the second position from the bottom.
Press and hold the Options and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds. The control will enter test mode,
the buzzer will sound 3 times and all LED's will rapidly flash.
After entering the test mode, the cycle selector knob can now be rotated to select the following tests:
Rotate the cycle selector knob clockwise from the starting position:
0 turns: All LED's will flash.
1 turn: Drive motor runs; heat source is on. Drying LED is lit. "H" and the control thermistor reading will toggle
back and forth in the display.
2 turns: Drive motor runs; heat source is off. Cool Down LED is lit and "AF" (Air Fluff) is displayed.
3 turns: Drive motor runs; heat source is off. Drying and Cool Down LED's are lit and numbers appear in the
display showing moisture sensor readings. Opening the door (press in on door switch plunger) and placing
a finger on the both moisture sense bars at the same time will make the numbers decrease. In controls that
do not have a digit display, the More Dry LED should be ON. Opening the door (press in on door switch
plunger) and placing a finger on the both moisture sense bars at the same time will make the Damp LED
come on.
4 turns: Drive motor runs; heat source is off.
Key test:
a. When the Temperature key is pressed, all the temperature LED's should light.
b. When the Dryness key is pressed, all the dryness level LED's should light.
c. When the Options or Select key is pressed, all the Option LED's should light.
d. When the Start/Pause key is pressed, all the cycle status LED's should light.
e. When the Cancel key is pressed, all the cycle status LED's should light.
5 turns: Drive motor runs; heat source is off. Cool Down LED is lit. Control thermistor reading is displayed.
6 turns: Drive motor runs; heat source is on. Drying LED is lit. Control thermistor reading is displayed.
7-11 turns: All LED's will flash
To EXIT test mode, press and hold the Select and Cancel buttons simultaneously for 6 seconds or disconnect power
from dryer. Dryer will be reset for regular operation.
If you cant even enter this mode at all, your interface will have to be replaced. There is no way to determine whether its the intrface OR ccu, but in my experience, it's usualy the interface that ends up needing replacement. Here is the part to order.

E68 error code

This E68 is a stuck keypad.

Maytag Neptune; power on but won't start to wash

does the "door locked" light ever come on? if it does, you may be able to get away with just the wax motor in the latch assy. Usually this call requires a control board as well. A bad board can be confirmed by looking for a burned resistor on the board itself(in the console) remove the screws along the top of the console and rock the console forward. The back will remain in place with some components attached to it. there also should be a tech sheet stuck in there with some diagnostic tests on it

Lock light wont turn off

Hello shon95m,
Glad to hear you did some troubleshooting on the first go around of your issue, we need to do some more. I haven’t experienced this issue but will troubleshoot with you if you can tolerate the down time. I will be doing this from the schematic of the machine. In this condition with the Locked LED lit are the Lid Locks actuated not releasing the lid to open? I know you know how to release the washer top from the washer base. Can you get into Service Mode in this failure condition?
First I would try the first two bullet points on page 13 of the SM for Will Not Unlock. I think you may have it, if not here are a couple of links to support troubleshooting efforts; Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
If that produces no results I would next pull the right lid lock off and leave it off it’s not necessary for normal washer operation and we need to reduce the failure points for fault isolation causing the lid lock circuit to remain lit.
Pull washer power plug first then pull the right lid lock off and leave it off. With the right lid lock plug pulled power up the machine does the Locked LED remain lit?
Repeat the step for the left lid lock after machine power up dose the Locked LED remain lit?
The “Lid Is Locked” inputs to the control board are in parallel from the left and right lid locks. From the schematic it looks like when the lid is locked +12VDC is connected thru the left and right lid locks to the input of the control board via Pin 8 of connector P3 marked on the schematic as “Lid Is Locked” input to the control board. From the schematic it looks to me that +12VDC signals the control board that the lid has successfully locked. So what is causing the Lock LED on the console? If it’s not caused by +12VDC switched to the input of the control board marked “Lid is Locked” from the left lid lock then I feel the control board has failed at component level causing this issue, but that is a WAG right now. The SM also speaks to a possible Motor Controller board as a possible fail point. If the Lock LED goes out when we pull the plug on the left lid lock then we need to open up that left lid lock and inspect for a possible corrosion paths at the plug or the left lid lock. See pic below of some nasty corrosion that can cause issues with the left lid lock assembly. Maybe we can get some other forum members to offer some additional support. I will continue to help until I hit a brick wall in troubleshooting or you need to move on. Rich

Control lock light will not go off.

Do you have any error codes?

Does water remain in the washer after the final spin?
If water remains in the washer after the final spin, then the door will not unlock. Drain/Spin or Spin Only to remove any remaining water from the washer. The door should unlock at the end of the cycle.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light on?
If the Add A Garment light is on, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed once. Pressing the Start button will restart the washer at the same point where it left off in the cycle.
Is the door locked and the Add A Garment light off?
If the Add A Garment light is off, then the washer door will unlock after the Pause/Cancel button is pressed twice. The door will not immediately unlock while the cycle is running due to a possible high-water level in the washer, high-water temperature, tumbling or spinning. It may take up to five minutes for the washer to stop spinning and draining before the door will unlock. You will hear the door click when it unlocks.
If Pause/Cancel does not work:
  1. Unplug washer or disconnect power for one minute.
  2. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
  3. Re-select the cycle and press Start.
NOTE: If the error remains on the display, call for service.

GE WCVH6260 stops unexpectantly

Try buttons "dry" & "spin" together for a few seconds. This is the child lock display.

Or press "end of cycle" for over 5 seconds.

Or press "options & select" till the light goes off.

Works for other machines..............And please rate me if helped.

Check your drain with a good pour of water from a bucket, it must clear fast. It it doesn't snake it out; the prob lies there 99%. And don't push your exit hose too deep into the standpipe, 4 to 5 inches & not air tight.
